Yes, perhaps attitude is more the difference than capability. The Amish aren't in the human "race" you spoke of and don't want to be. Interesting how some of us are dreaming of the simple life. My father is so enamoured with the Amish way of life that he spends several days a week with them, gleaning useful knowledge the rest of the world scoffs at.
I do know of some people making their own church IDs, which have been accepted for flying and car rental. Freedom of religion still exists for those under a real church covering, not a 501c3 organization. I'm not under any covering and have no ID, it's not an easy way to live in our technological society. I'm trying to figure this out as well, mainly for my children as they are not in the system. Things are changing so rapidly, who knows?
