As far as underground bunkers, solar flares cause "infrasound". Tesla was working on infrasound. Samuel Clemens seemed to enjoy it, but repeated/prolonged exposure can be harmful. Tesla's use of infrasound was for an earthquake machine (well, that's it for the "bunker" idea).

The solar flares will most likely burn out the power grid. Tons of rotting food will cause epidemics, hospitals and mortuaries will cause epidemics, inoperative sewage plants will cause epidemics and build up of flammable methane gas while wildfires rage, communication facilities burn out, rivers and lakes evaporate, satellites fall from the sky, etc.

Fourty years ago, preparation was as simple as stockpiling food and water, but now there are too many unforeseen problems because of technology and a large population.

I don't think the U.S. government is going to do much to help us through hard times, maybe the UK.
