Re: To receive, give what it is you desire
Hi I-love
do you like visual art? now I don't know where you live and if you have ever chance to go to shows and such things. You can begin by watching magazines like ArtForum and Flash Art International and have some chats with young artists and gallerists. As intelligent and sensitive as you are, it won't take long to get to know the work of some really good young american artists. At this point you can help them by producing or purchasing their works, and if you've had good nose this will have been one of your best investements, as nothing raise in value so much as contemporary art, if you pick an artist when he is almost unknown and then he becomes famous. And you'll end up with a nice collection of art. But before you've got to enter this complex and simple niche called contemporary art and understand it(there's a lot of mind work when it comes to visual art, like it or not, it isn't so much about picking the first picture you like and buy it, as you have to educate your eyes and mind before. I know it is antipathic to say, but this is how it is, as the average person doesn't have the fainest idea of what's going on when it comes to contemporary art. But that's also the cool about it!)
You'll end up:
- getting to see fantastic works
- getting to meet very interesting people
- putting together a small collection that will please your eyes and your heart
- help young artists continue to work - I can assure you that even the very best ones at their beginning need support
- enter the whole special sociality of opening shows (if you like it)
- possibly, multiply your money by having incouraged artists that later on become recognized
As soon as I finally make up my mind about where to live ad I have a place where to put these things I'm gonna do this too. It's along time dream. It would be a very fun thing to do for me as I'm a visual artist too (but I don't need support, in fact I'm loaded of money, lucky me!). In fact a lot of contemporary artists do this, once they have gone beyond the gate of poverty. Even so, there are still far too few people purchasing contemporary art. They get all fixated on outrageously expensive old works, which are far less intriguing than contemporary ones. You can be different and incourage the new.
