There are many organizations all around the U.S.A. (I assume you are in the U.S.) and other countries who provide financial assistance and counseling for single mothers and children.

There are WIN organizations in probably about every state (not all affiliated with each other or the WIN organization), but they could provide detailed info on social services and whether he should have any contact with the child at all (social services might overturn the judges decision for judicial INCOMPETENCE).
