slurred speech and ketone breath
Hi everyone,
I've been desperately searching for answers for a year regarding my husband's condition. No help from doctors whatsoever. It began last Thanksgiving when he was craving sweets and went way overboard. Since then the episodes are more frequent. If he eats anything high in carbohydrates within a half hour these symptoms occur:
acetone breath
slow speech or slurred if severe
pupils dilating
automatic type movement
fatigue
dementia/paranoid behavior, crying
voiding large amounts every fifteen minutes
sleeps for a long period of time
He has had his hemoglobin tested a few times which has come up normal. I have also tested his urine for ketones and nothing. They've done a fbs--normal, but no glucose tolerance. He has been found to have very high blood pressure, which I assume is from the hypoglycemia. One doctor told him to drink more water. Another told him to take orange juice when this occurs. Neither of those things help. If this is hypoglycemia then why doesn't the OJ bring him out of it? My feeling is that eventually he'll slip into a coma and won't wake up from one of these episodes and I seem to be unable to get any help. The strong acetone breath seems to point everyone toward high blood sugar, so it is confusing. Anyone else have any input on this at all?
He also has a history of CLL from agent orange and Prostate cancer so there is a lot going on.
Thankyou.
