Oooops sorry didn't realise Johnny had already answered!
Hi motherof4,
Do you have other health problems (beside the nerve damage) which you believe are mercury related? What are they?
Would you be willing to have a hair test? If the results of this test showed skewed minerals (ie lots of highs and lows or a lot of lows) this is a strong indicator of mercury toxicity as Andy Cutler emphasises. Johnny is more experienced in reading/interpreting hair tests, based on Cutler's hair test book. If you satisfy the "counting rules" then chelation would be the way to go, but only *after* you've had all your fillings removed (4 days after removal and 3 months later for alpha lipoic acid).
Don't know where you are based but Doctor's Data Inc (www.doctorsdata.com) and Trace Elements Inc (www.traceelements.com) in the US offer very good hair tests.
Re finding a dentist....here is a link....

Scroll down to "Dentists"
It's normally recommended to take out one filling at a time....seems to be the safest way to go. Best to choose one who is experienced and wants to protect you by providing things like an oxygen mask an goggles and possibly a rubber dam though some dentists think this can make things worse as mercury can get trapped behind it (my dentist never used a dam).
In the meantime it might be worth taking liver support herbs like milk thistle and antioxidants like vit C and E and essential fatty acids eg fish oil. The hair test would indicate which minerals you are deficient in and so then you supplement with the appropriate ones.
Hope that helps for now :) Any mercury connected health problems you have will improve possibly after
Amalgam removal and certainly following chelation. Not sure about nerve damage though. Do you take B vitamins? B12 helps with any nerve problems. The major minerals potassium, magnesium and calcium also help with nerve probs.
Take care :)
