Re: Oil Pulling, by MH *Edit*
Hey thanks!
I will be brief, and you can take or leave this information MH.
I was told by a chemical biologist (please don't roll your eyes) that there are certain bacteria in the mouth that simply cannot be removed by conventional means. There is a property in oil, he thinks the acids, that this bacteria is attracted to. This is the same bacteria that forms those nice colonies and cities of yellow (known as tartar) and eventually harden into plaque. OPing first thing in the morning relieves the mouth of all the bacteria that formed over night. That is why so many experience the extreme tooth whitening effect first.
*Edit* - They have now proven that harmful bacteria in the mouth can potentially find it's way into the heart and other organs. Gum disease is deadly. Going to a dentist, and having a large release of bacteria in one visit (like a root canal) is also very deadly. If OP does indeed attract and subsequently dispose of these harmful bacteria, then that might be why there are so many claims of health through the history of this therapy.
The oil stimulates the mucous membranes. Saliva is essential for the health of the mouth. OPing seems to keep those channels flowing and greatly relieves dry mouth. In the same vein, people that OP find that their sinuses are draining. Why does this happen? Perhaps from the same stimulation? Stuffy noses clear up, and a great deal of phlegm seems to come up. When feeling congested in the chest (and yes even the healthiest succumb at some point) OP will bring up a temendous amount of the congestion and relief. Many have reported that they no longer have allergies due to only OP.
Sublingual absorbtion. We got this idea while reading a patent on sublingual pharmaceuticals. They apparently use Oleic Acid as an enhancer to better absorb the medicine. If you are exposing that area of your mouth to oil, then it stands to reason that oil is being absorbed straight into the blood stream, bypassing the digestive juices. This would mean a direct hit of essential fatty acids. That seems to be a possible reason why Keratosis Pilaris (a skin condition) is mostly cured with OP. There is no cure for that condition, and is thought to be genetic. Could KP just be a genetic dispostion to deficiencies in assimilating fatty acids? Don't know. Other skin conditions seem to be helped as well. Amazingly, rough heels soften as do elbows. Why is this? I am not a scientist, I have no idea, just theories. I saw my husband's KP go away with my own eyes after about 5 months of OPing. He has had that condition all his life.
Yes, I guess OP would be a leap of faith. It's intriguing when many of the people on the forum facing gum surgery no longer need surgery according to thier dentist, after OPing for as little as a month. Now I am the last person on earth to validate any dentist. They are my arch nemisis, but how odd that they would turn a patient away from surgery after telling them they needed it not long before?
All the experiences of people on CZ as well as EarthClinic and a slew of other sites accross the internet are doing this and a many continue without stopping. If it is just placebo, that's a pretty long lasting mirage I'd say. People that seem to veer from one thing to another still continue to oil pull.
So, you wanted to hear what someone thought? Have at it. Thanks for listening!
Love, Molly
