Re: getting mirena today

Thank you all for your thoughts! I considered what all of you have written, and I truly appreciate it.

I went ahead and got it today, it was a little more uncomfortable than I thought.

I have never had any adverse effects from any birth control I have taken. I have used the pill and also the patch, and both worked great for me. After my second child, I had a tubal ligation.

Over the last couple of years, my periods have become debilitating! I cannot function for 3 days of the month, the heavy bleeding, clots, and cramps are ridiculous. My doc didn't want me on any birth control with estrogen because I am a smoker....so I decided to go with the mirena.

I wasn't comfortable with the depo shot, because I figured I would be stuck with it for 3 months even if I didn't care for it. I have also read some horrific things about that, too.

If I have side effects from this, I can always get it out. That was the logic I used.
