Re: getting mirena today
Well, getting Mirena inserted is your choice and I can only encourage you to be sure you've done thorough research. I wish that I had dug a little deeper before I chose to get this thing. It sounded like a good option at the time but I did not educate myself as well as I should have and regret my choice. I have come across a few people who seem to respond well to Mirena though I am not one of them! I am getting mine out tomorrow!
While every hormonal method of birth control can have certain side effects, the effects that I'm experiencing that are possibly caused by Mirena are too alarming to me and taking it out is something that I can control. Frankly, I'm very frustrated right now. NONE of the BC methods out there sound appealing to me and I am tired of playing with hormones and screwing up my body! I was on depo provera shots for about 5 years and was one of the lucky ones that had a very good experience with it. My period stopped completely after the first month and I had no big complaints other than the possible bone loss! I switched to Mirena this past May as it seemed the next best option for me and since the hormones in it are similar to depo I was hoping to repsond well to it. Unfortunately, I have not!
I'm seriously tempted to look into the whole fertility awareness method at this point. I wonder what I'm like when I'm "normal" with no added hormones! My husband offered to get a vasectomy, but we're not 100% sure that we don't want to get pregnant in the future...what a pain!
Good luck with your decision. I hope things turn out well for you!
