Re: Breakfast ideas? Giving up ALL grains, need some help pls
Giving up all grains is a great thing to do for your body. It really helps both candida and gut problems. Another good supplement for gut problems is L-Glutamine. The bottle says two tabs with each meal, but I took it once a day, at the most twice, and it really helped me. I used to not be able to eat any raw food at all.
For breakfast- my favorite too is leftover from last night's dinner. I usually go for protein, if I am starting over because my diet consists of protein and low carb vegetables. Eggs are good, but can get old. I like to cut up some vegetables, onions and carrots for sure and burdock or a little romaine if I have it, cook lightly and add a couple of eggs and mix. Very good and filling. Green beans with eggs are delicious. I use coconut oil or real butter for egg dishes.
I also like hamburger patties. Sometimes I put in onions, garlic, or mushrooms, any or all. This morning I cooked two chicken breasts (they were frozen so they came out almost as poached). I pulled them apart with a fork and a knife, added garlic, onions, a small can of green chilies, cooked for a couple of minutes only and added a little more than an ounce of cheese - Delicious! I had part for breakfast, and part for lunch. Then at night I chopped and cooked a small head of cabbage. That was my dinner. At night I ate some brazil nuts. That was my day. By the way, my grandmother used to add
Sugar to cabbage, so I added stevia; it takes the bite away.
You can also put some vegetables in a crockpot before you go to bed and have soup the next morning. I put in tomatoes and celery, and whatever else I have. If I crave the soup, I don't hesitate to used canned tomatoes.
Sometimes I cut up some cheese and slice whatever vegetables I have fresh and that is my breakfast. Yogurt is wonderful for an anticandida diet. It feeds the good bacteria. However, you cannot buy the normal yogurt. You have to get the plain yogurt, add some stevia, and maybe some vanilla extract (or any other extract you might like. I like the flavored stevia. Sometimes I add some chopped toasted nuts to the yogurt. Sometimes I add cocoa powder.
So you see, if you are willing to believe that breakfast doesn't have to be corn flakes or oatmeal, there are a lot of possibilities. Here are some other thoughts:
A light fish like tilapia cooked in a little oil and water on top of the stove is really great for gut problems. It seems the protein and fat is what the gut craves. Tilapia doesn't have high amounts of mercury, and it never tastes "fishy." Add some lemon and
Sea Salt .
I don't hesitate to eat one thing at a time - I don't have to have a complete meal. For example, I ate the chicken with green chili and cheese with no side dish, and then had the cabbage with no entree.
It also helps to have some flavored drinks, herbal tea over ice with stevia, or lemonade made with lemon juice and stevia, or any of the flavored stevias in water (the chocolate ones are good).
There are some bread substitutes you can use; check the recipe section for fake flax bread, made with flax meal. Depending on how you metabolize flax, you can have it once a week, or maybe more often. I can't have too much flax meal, it raises my
Sugar level. And if it raises
Sugar levels, it feeds candida. Check out Atkins recipes for more ideas.
A hint: Try to get enough protein, and use an adequate amount of fat (good fat!) so you won't crave the carbs and fall off the wagon. Then make sure you have a lot of vegetables so you will have good elimination. Fruit will not help with the candida, it will hurt, so you have to become a good manager of your food. The good news is that after ten days of no carbs, you do not crave them. The cravings are actually quite controllable - it is like it comes in your mind, you tell yourself you don't want to take that first drink (carb) and your body listens. If you have a lot of cravings, to not have cravings is a beautiful thing.
When I first started this kind of diet, I really missed the bread. Now I don't buy it, so I don't have the temptation. If I can do it, you can too!
