Re: VERY Important Iodine Information...
Don't let anyone beat you down, Unyquity -- what you have to say is indeed important.
I had a goiter for 10 years. I finally switched from an endocrinologist who was completely useless to an alt-med practitioner who recommended trying
Iodine for my goiter. I took it for almost a year and it did nothing to help the goiter. I didn't notice any improvement to my health; in fact, after about 9 months of it I was just becoming chronically fatigued.
It wasn't until I took charge of my own health and did my own research that I found that thyroid peroxidase (the thyroid hormone precursor) requires iron. When I started supplementing with ferrous fumarate my goiter actually started shrinking. But by then my thyroid was saturated with iodine, and I went through a really rough several months being hyperthyroid. I will never take
Iodine again because of it. I learned much later that
Iodine supplementation is contraindicated when you have Hashimoto's, which I have.
There are studies that show that children with goiter may also have an iron deficiency so it is important for people to hear what you are saying.
The thing is, we are not all the same... perhaps there are a lot of people who find iodine supplementation useful... but there are others of us that don't get the same results or may actually be harmed. I don't see why some find it so objectionable to hear it.
