I don't know that I'll ever give it up 100% but I used to eat it one or more times a week and now I don't even have it monthly. My favorite ice cream substitute is Acai (they sell acai bowls at Jamba Juice). If you can find a health food store that sells it, I recommend it or perhaps playing with other sorbet's. Sorbet's used to not be as fun but the freezing temp of fruit is different than ice cream and to get ice cream consistency, you need to leave Acai out for an hour (for one example) or keep it at a temperature between fridge & freezer. I've been to different places that do Acai here and there are combinations that usually start with fresh banana slices & granola, and vary such as adding other fresh berries, blending ACAI with sweet things and topping it with honey or bee pollen, also using flavored granola.
I bet you didn't expect a long response! But from an ice cream lover to an ice cream lover, I usually go for the acai sorbet combos which take care of my longing for that consistency and coolness (I love cool treats) and I have ice cream only once in a while. :-)
