I'm finally ready to ask a few questions...
OK, after reading for over a week now, (and barely scratching the surface), I'm ready to ask a few questions.
First off, let me say that I am cynical when it comes to natural healing, not because I don't believe in it, but because I've seen so much 'bandwagoning' and extremism associated with it. I'm very much the type of person who needs hard facts as proof before I'll believe something. Not that I disregard common sense, but that when it comes to my health, it has been so screwed up for so long that I am now far more careful about what I put into it. No, I'm not an organic-raw-food-fruit/veggie/juicer/naturalist/etc.... person (not that there's anything wrong with that), I'm just finally starting to feel better and want to grow even healthier, and I am willing to try natural things at a slow and reasonable rate, assuming I have a good grasp on the pros and cons of any given treatment.
I have begun drinking ACV and baking soda a couple of times a day, which does seem to make me feel better. I also started 'painting' on
Iodine a couple of times a day, more or less figuring that at a low absorption rate and my thyroid funtioning low, it couldn't hurt. I'd like to possibly step it up and add a couple more things, but like I said, I'm cynical, so I just wanted to ask some questions.
Iodine and Iodide: I understand that different parts of the body use different types. Thyroid uses
Iodide and breasts use Iodine, for example, correct? If one takes a supplement for fibrocystic breasts, are they not risking throwing their thyroid out of balance by using one that contains both forms?
Has anyone using these supplements on this forum had their levels checked, and can each form be checked independently?
Are there supplements with only one form?
Does
Iodine in fact 'flush out' bromine and flouride by displacing it? Proof?
I have also heard of it 'chelating' the others; what exactly is this?
It seems to me a concern might be that one may have plenty of
Iodine and it is being inhibited by too much flouride and bromine (and chlorine?), therefore using an Iodine supplement may make more available to you and yet overdose your thyroid. I have read that boron and
Sea Salt will flush out bromine and flouride; would that not be a better choice initially, thereby being able to add Iodine in smaller amounts and less frequently, assuming it is found to be lacking after a flush?
I have noticed that the idea seems to be that bromine, flouride, and chlorine should not be found AT ALL in one's body. Chlorine I agree with, but I seem to remember reading that bromine in small amounts is necessary to the body to utilize the Iodine. Also, flouride in small amounts is supposed to be beneficial, but I forget how. So would the real problem not be an overabundance of these things? Hence the need to flush out the excess?
While I'm on that, in the interest of not subsequently OD'ing on Boron, what would be the proper amounts to use and, therefore, what would the more appropriate supplement be?
What about the use of
Sea Salt and sodium levels in the body and consequences thereof?
I have also heard that ACV flushes out flouride (and aluminum)? Any truth to that (proof)? I know this is the iodine debate forum, not the ACV debate forum (is there and ACV debate forum?), but since I'm here and we're talking about flouride flushing I figured what the heck.
I want to be healthier, I'm sick of hurting and having what I see being called 'brain fog'. Ultimately I would love to be off of all my meds and moving forward at a quicker rate. But I also believe in balance, especially in nature (which includes natural healing, in my opinion), so anyone who's inclination might be to tell me that 'all I really need is a
parasite flush' or 'a fast' or '1000 mg of Iodine a day (exaggeration for emphasis)', while I appreciate your enthusiasm and I'm happy for you if you're feeling great on whatever you're doing, and I'm not opposed to any of those things in moderation, I stand firm on the opinion that balance and moderation are necessary and do not seek a debate moreso than straight answers. I hope that doesn't sound snotty, it's hard to convey meaning in writing. But I've seen some really great informational threads start here only to be corrupted by bickering over personal grudges. I want to hear what everyone says. So if you feel that Iodine supplementation is bunk, fine with me. If you take it all day long, whatever. I just don't want to argue, and I don't want to have to sift through any more of it.
Having blathered on long enough, I would be SO grateful if anyone would address my questions. Thanks in advance.
