Re: Iodine & emotional health, part 2

Illness of mind and chemical imbalance are so often so intrinsically linked that the tendency is to blame the mind, the person. When healing really is done there is a recognition of innocence. Not that you as an individual do not have choices to make as you heal.. including indulging and acting on the impulses of defense, attack and retribution.. but that the cause of the impulse is not your fault in any way.. or in fact anyone else's.
My clarity reached about my mom is standing, growing on my awareness. We were both so innocent, so trapped by our chemistry, historical behavior and the ideas we had about who we each were to be - there was no possible way for us to have behaved any differently than we did. But, in fact our behavior often was chemically based, not a reflection of the real bond between us.
It is not airy fairy to really see how much our chemistry controls us - determines us - defines us.
Healing is the increase in choice - for me. I have options I never had before - not because I was or am stupid, mean or nasty, but because my chemistry limited my options.

Oprah says that when we know better we do better. I am coming to see that we cannot know better until we 'feel' better, are better. As generosity is a choice for people with options, kindness is a choice for someone with more options, more healed places. If you are chemically bound it is all but impossible.

Or maybe it is simply too late at night and I am full of it... shrug
