Re: What in the hell have we become?
Just coincidentally, I was watching "Kid Nation"
last evening on television to see what the hoopla
was about. They took a bunch of kids and dumped
them in the desert to fend for themselves.
I found myself wondering why this project was ever
developed and thought hmmm...I wonder if they are
trying to plant the seeds in the consciousness
of kids and parents what it would be like if we
had to revert back to living without the benefit
of so many of the luxuries we take for granted, as
many refugees in countries like Africa have to.
I found myself further thinking that Americans will
not fight for the *American* way of life until they
lose it.
The mental pictures come to mind also, of the monks
in Burma, waging Peace, and being slaughtered for
their efforts. I reminded myself that death is an
easy thing, like slipping off a shirt, and so when
I said my prayers, I said prayers for those who
were standing up for what they believed, and were
drying and suffering for it. I cannot help but
believe down the road many of us will be offered
the opportunity to stand up for what we believe.
It may be by voting, it may be by calling and writing
those who represent us to the executive branch of
our government, and it may be in ways that ask us
to stand and walk together as one voice, loud enough
to make a difference.
I too, ask, what in the 'ell have we become....and
what it will take to realize that what we do today
will have consequences that we cannot imagine.
blessings,
Zoe
