CK,
I’ll definitely try the lemon slice protocol. I’ll put lemons on my grocery list, as they’ll aid me in my personal liver flush, *upcoming* and I’m out!
I have been giving her brewers yeast each morning.
Garlic, not so much, b/c there are different opinions on that-As far as if it's tollerated well by dogs, and such. But I give her a little, sometimes. There’s no harm in that, I believe.
I’m excited about the brewer’s yeast, and I’m glad you suggested it.
Because another friend of mine suggested that it repels fleas, too.
I’ve been doing it for 3 or 4 weeks.
Just on a side note, the pills take an hour to dissolve in water, (which I do, for her. Then mix it with her oatmeal.)
Kind of makes you wonder how well these tablets dissolve in our stomachs.
I also have some of the granular brewer’s yeast, which I give her sometimes, but not usually b/c I have so little left. Gah, she really lo-oves that stuff. *I’ll put that on my list too.*
storyofmylife,
I agree dogs need a lot of meat. They are carnivores, like us. However, my dog loves veggies and
And she will graze in the grass, *like a cow*, for hours. What I do, is slice veggies, (cabbage, beets, bok choy, carrot, whatever), very small or use a food
processor. A lot of times canines in the wild will eat the stomach contents of their kill, so they are mushy and somewhat digested plant fiber, in a lot of cases. The smaller and thinner they can be sliced, the better.
Actually my vet didn’t say 10% bone in particular. That I learned from raw feeding research, which specifies that puppies should not have more than that. It can cause them to grow too fast, which is very bad for their bones, and can cause them problems later. You want the dog to grow very slowly, ideally.
Yes, Daisy is getting older now, at 14.5 months. In the beginning I did give her too much bone, before I knew about the growth factor.
And as she gets older, more bone should be implemented; you are right. I'm pretty sure the dog is finsished growing, at this point. I'm happy to feed her more bone, b/c there are always lots and lots of bones around here. It’s hard to throw them away, when I know how much she loves them!
As far as the ratios, yeah, I’m a bit skeptical myself of all the veggies and fruits, but my protocols are more on a bulk ratio than a weight ratio. Chopped cabbage can take up her whole bowl, but a good steak may only use half of it, yet be 2 or 3 times the weight.
I’d say ¾ of a bowl of meat, and a whole bowl of fruit/veggie, mineral/oat/herb/broth per day is what she consumes. She probably eats better than I. *blush*
Plus, I’m adding chlorella/spirulina soon, as I’ve read about the chlorophyll benefits, which she craves.
*the shopping list is growing.* lol.
thanks so much for the input, friends. I'm learning so much!
