I'm looking for an website that has loads of good info about herbs, their uses, how to grow them, also their vitamin and mineral content.
If anyone knows of such a website, and could tell me the link, I would appreciate it.
I know there is at least one website like this somewhere, because unfortunately, I found it but apparently never bookmarked it.

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com sells seeds, bulk herbs, etc & has loads of info on everything they sell, including contemporary and folklore info.

I remember finding one when looking for information about dandelions. It was so beautifully and thoroughly done that it was suitable for publishing. Obviously, the author was a kindly and knowledgeable person.
I'll bet White Tiger knows places to look.
Or, maybe your local gardening club has ideas.

This is a reply to # 767,247...I get out my ancient Encyclopedia of Gardening, and start checking the names of the old varieties.
You see, they aren't allowed to genetically mutilate a seed and still call it by the its original variety name. Grin.

Also, there are dedicated seed-savers out there, begging people to grow out the old seeds and return refreshed ones to the system.

This is a reply to # 767,705If you are somebody who cares or somebody who suspects you may one day care, now is the time to get to know one of these seed-saver people. Monsanto has been busy buying up seed companies big and small over the years. Despite being somewhat informed on the trends in big agri, upon moving back to my rural small town home of homes I was pretty surprised and saddend to find out that virtually none of the local farmers grow heirloom corn anymore. I spoke to a few and asked them about this specifically and they literally gushed over the gm'd roundup-ready variant. Plus or minus the benefits of even eating real corn to begin with, this still hit home pretty hard with me.

This is a reply to # 767,724I found a small grove on a commercial property with about 30 citrus trees, lemons, limes, oranges... I asked about the fruit, because last year I saw them throwing so much away; not even donating it to homeless shelters. The trees had been GMO'd and strategically planted to produce fragrant citrus smells on the property, the fruit itself is not fit to eat!
Why bother?????
My mom has been buying and saving non-gmo seed. Maybe I should start doing it too for a few years till I have a good few years worth of sustainable seed stock if I ever need it.

This is a reply to # 767,903People are gullible and impressionable. The last time I looked, Citrus scented commercial household chemical products were quite the rage. Drugs cover up symptoms in general, citrus chemcial household products cover up odors in general. People growing gm'd fruit trees may be insane, or perhaps just ill-informed. Insane business people tend to be about focusing on petty things, like image and whatever else they can impress upon and get over on or cover up from the public - "hey, don't mind the thumbs growing out of my neck, just try to enjoy the soothing citrus aromas that we installed JUST to draw your attention away from what we are tryign to cover up!"

This is a reply to # 767,903They call them ornamental citrus trees around here. They grow smaller and are easier to maintain than non-GMO varieties. But you are right, they serve no real purpose other than smell. Looking back, the terms "easier" "convenient" seem to be what get us into trouble time and time again.
Some people do use the fruit to make marmalade's but they have told me it takes .5 to 1.5x more Sugar than regular recipes because the fruit is so bitter.

This is a reply to # 767,916In Asia, around Chinese New Year it is popular to buy or give these small citrus plants (I say small - some can be 5 or 6 feet high) that are covered all over with beautiful small oranges (or some sort of small orange citrus). But they aren't edible. I tried some, they taste terrible. Most people toss the trees after a few months, like you do with a christmas tree.
Not all citrus is "edible". I mean, it may be really fibrous and acidic and not sweet. I don't have a problem with people growing citrus trees just because they are pretty or smell nice. However, I believe there are already traditional citrus available for doing that, no need to genetically mutate plants!!
