I would recommend U try Progest Body Cream, don't take out the IUD, U will get the benefits of contraception and lighter menses. I have many of my patients using this product and it works well. U can find it in any natural health food store or even on line. Just rub 1/4 to 1/2 tsp on the skin twice a day, it works well for PMS types of symptoms in at least 50% of my patients.

I tried to get a Mirena IUD inserted last night and had a fainting spell, vomiting, and massive cramps - this all after it came out while my PA was clipping the strings! I am surprised to read about the Depression - I was trying the IUD bc the pill made me kinda crazy. Anyway, I wondered, like hollybygolly if my situation was at all typical. I am disappointed, but I can't go through that again - it was a horrible night.

I had the Mirena as well and just had it removed after 6 months. I had 2 1/2 week periods while on it. I am having a terrible period which is very scary since we want to try to have a baby. I am really scared that there is something wrong... My Dr. saus to give it a week, but hopefully everything will be ok!

I can relate to the postings regarding the Mirena I.U.D, however, I think had I known the possible side effects, I would not have went that direction. I had the Mirena inserted 3 years ago. I stopped having periods all together, which was one and probably the only great thing about the Mirena. About 2 years after the insertion, I experienced horrible cramping and severe depression, which I had to be hospitalized for due to the severity. I had no idea the Mirena could have been the cause. As far as the cramping, my paps were normal and my appts with my gyno appeared normal and ok. I spent the last 8 months having the I.U.D. in constant pain. One day this past May, the pain got worse, I was vomiting, I could barely stand up straight. I immediatly went to my gyno who examined me and noticed...she could not feel or see my I.U.D. strings. They did a sonogram, only to find, the I.U.D. had dislodged in my Uterus, and I was having severe Uterine bleeding. They brought a wheel chair up, and wheeled me over to the hospital and admitted me and preformed emergency surgery that day, to remove the I.U.D. I spent 5 days in the hospital on several types of anti biotics because they feared me getting bad infections, which is common when having I.U.D. removed, but also because my case was so severed...basically...it could have killed me had I not got the medical attention I did, when I did. Needless to say...immediatly after surgery..I felt like a million bucks! I could literally tell a difference in the way I felt. I was no longer having cramps..and had minimal pain from the surgery..which by the way..was done vaginally. I look back and think of how horrible I felt for so long. I cant believe how much better I feel. I had been on the pill and the patch for over 14 years and always had great experiences with my birth control.....this was NOT the case with the Mirena I.U.D. I think my case is rare, however, can happen. So...if you have the Mirena and have the following symptoms....that could be why. Below are a few symptons I had for 8 months...and when the Mirena was removed....ALL symptoms were gone!

1.Pelvic Pain
2.Depression
3.Tender gums(due to hormones)
4.Bleeding gum(due to hormones)
5.Vaginal infections that continued for months.
6.Nausea
7.Vomiting

hi there, well i may be different to you all. i have had the mirena IUD now for over 3 years and was the best thing i ever did. I suffered form periods happening every 2 weeks then lasting for 10 days solid have has ectopic pregnancies and 7 miscarriages i also have 2 healthy boys who are noe 10 and 8. the Drs where at there last to do with me and i was classed as a test case in New Zealand. and i suffered so badf from PMS i thought i was going crazy to be honest like i had a crazy woman living in my head. But since i had this god send in i havent had a period in 3 yrs, no moodiness, acne, weight gain, nothing. all i might say is i shed alot of hair and i grew a few whiskers on my chin(but this mighta happened any was with getting older) i am now 36 and am planning to have it removed to see if i have now gotten into a regular cycle..... i have had period problems since i was 11 yrs old.... and am planning another child thins year, crossing fingers!!! well i hope i have helped others out there and please if you want email me any question.... im only to willing to help, as i say was the best thing ever happened im almost not looking forward to go back to periods... other reason i got it is i wasnt ready for the full hystorectomy cause i wanted another child..... this was the next best thing!!!!! let me know? byeeeeeeeeee
