Margie,
I actually did the Atkins diet to the letter and determined that I was metabolically resistant so I could never do more that 5-10 carbs in a day or it did not work. Learning this is probably why it took me so long to lose those 10-12 pounds. I NEVER cheated. I was extremely determined.
Once I attained my weight goal I did a lab test while still doing the Atkins diet and my test showed 400 on an 18 hour fast.
Now to maintain my weight loss I have returned to a vegetarian diet with the addition of fish or chicken a couple times per week. My cholesterol has dropped (with no other intervention) to its previous number which is 135.
You asked about all the other numbers in the cholesterol. They all went up. Then post Atkins they all returned to where they were pre Atkins.
Do not be so radical that you forget that there are people who do not fall in the so-call usual curve. Body Chemistries are different for different people.
If there are truly some scientists who are interested in the phenomenon that I have experienced, I will be happy to speak with them in person and provide my lab studies.
