I have been diagnosed with Drug Induced Psychosis.
I've been on Seroquel for almost (started on 100,mg 200mg, then 600mg, then 400mg) 3 years, during those 3 years I did come of it for about 3 days (unintentionally), had an episode, and was hospitalised in a lock up ward. (Big mistake)
It is with me also if I miss a dose, I'll have the worst sleepless night of my life, and I hallucinate while I'm half asleep.
I find it to also twitch my right hand to the point I can't control it. but this seemed to have weakened a bit, but still there semi-dormant.
I find it to have increased my appetite after taking my dose by 30minutes in the evening, I have to resist the temptation to pig out, because apparently like I was told to the contrary that it makes me gain weight.
I had been on Riseperdal for a couple of years before, and also was hospitalised after deciding to come off cold-turkey on my own. (big mistake)

This is a reply to # 516,983My doctor diagnosed me with schizophrenia which I totally believe was wrong since I was not hallucinating at any time before he perscribed me drugs. He put me on Risperdal for a period of about a month and a half. I had to withdraw from school because of the effects that it had on me (too sleepy to work). A mistake that I made was that I had been taking diet pills (with ephedrine) and working out at the gym intensely while taking the Risperdal and as a side-effect, I had insomnia at night and I would have fits during the day.
At one time I mixed some of the medicine that I had been given for my previous diagnosis of being manic-depressive with the Risperdal, on top of the diet pills and had a horrible reaction. I felt like I was falling backwards into a black hole and I was terribly sleepy, but couldn't fall asleep because whenever I started to fall asleep, I would start to fall again and involuntarily jerk myself awake. My mom came over while I was having this reaction and I scared her because I couldn't focus and was in an incoherent state. It was the worst torture I tell you and I don't wish for anyone to go through what I went through.

This is a reply to # 516,984I just stumbled onto this site and your message about schizophrenic symptoms. Why I felt compelled to reply was that you mentioned taking ephedrine in diet pills and then suffering terrible symptoms. Alarm bells went off for me because the reason I am searching is that my twenty year old son suffered a severe psychotic reaction after taking ephedrine while working out in the gym. They wanted to diagnose him as schizophrenic and he was put on an involuntary order to take respiridone.They would not listen to me when I told them it was a dug induced psychosis caused by ephedrine. I have since found reports in medical journals describing ephedrine psychosis where the symptoms were exactly the same as those which my son experienced. Therer are many court cases in America now concerning ephedrine and its terrible effects. it is my belief that a great many of these psychotic episodes are drug induced . The doctors dont even investigate , just put the patient on dangerous anti psychotic medications which I call psychotic medications because I believe that they induce or make the symptoms worse. My son has never been himself since that sad encounter with ephedrine. It is actually a chinese herb called Ma Huang , known to chinese medicine for thousands of years. I am about to consult a chinese herbalist to find out if they know of any way of counteracting the terrible effects of this substance. I dont know where you are but you may like to search about the court actions regarding ephedrine. Maybe you will qualify to become part of a class action. I was fobbed off saying they would not pursue my case but reading your story has renewed my conviction that there is something very bad going on with regard to that product.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 516,983I started hallucinating around the time I was put on an antidepressant called Reboxetine, although I stopped taking it a month ago and am still hallucinating a bit so I'm not sure.

This is a reply to # 517,019Seroquel helps against psychosis, and also I can't sleep without it. Sleeping without it gives me hallucinations, I'm physically uncomfortable, and feel alot of pressure. However there is a way to go with this medications in terms of healing my inner self, but not to say I haven't travelled far with it.
I wish to slowly get off this medication, just like I would like to get any other medication that I've been on for a number of years, I'ld like to be self sufficient, and self healing because I feel thats where the key is, and not in pills that make believe in you, that you're healing.

This is a reply to # 517,021My son was on Seroquel and he got off of it. You have to decrease it slowly down to 25 mg or even half a 25mg tablet. After a few days if you are doing OK on 12.5 mg then take 5-HTP which you can get at a health food store. Take 200mg on an empty stomach about a half hour before you plan to go to bed and that should help you to get to sleep. (It is much more effective if you haven't eaten for about 3 hours before.) Our experience is that no matter how small a dose of Seroquel you have gotten down to, you will have trouble sleeping for a night or two when you quit if you don't take something to help. 5-HTP is a food supplement. Take 200mg for two nights and hopefully after that you will be OK as far as getting to sleep is concerned. The 5-HTP only works for about 2 nights in a row as a sleep aid and then the body gets used to it. (This is based on the experience of my son, you may be different.)
Geodon made our son more psychotic after taking it for about a week.
If you want to stay off medication, you should look up orthomolecular treatment of schizophrenia. It helps many people as long as they take enough niacin. Some people think they have tried it and it didn't work, but they only took 1 gram or so of niacin or niacinamide and that isn't enough.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 517,025i am writing this response because my brother whois 21 was diagnosed with tourette's and ocd for 14 years was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia due to event of psychosis where he began to hear voices. He had been on geodon for five years but only began to hear the voices when his psychiatrist titrated his doses from 40mg X 2 to 60mg, then 80mg twice a day. with the increased dosages we began to notice the psychotic episodes increasing. We reported this to his doctor and she placed him on respiredal(even though we explained to her that his last reation to this med made his angry and aggressive). Less than a week later, he attempt to attack my sister as she slept because of his hallucinations.He was then hospitalized and diagnosed with schizophrenia.
He was placed on seroquel 400mg for the past three weeks and he is more psychotic than ever, so please tell me that this niacin will help. This is a reply to # 1,229,521hello im 18 my name is rochelle i suffer from induce psychosis, psycotic fits. insomnia and the ocd i think that people are horrible to me and thats what causes the psycotic fits and the medication stops me from sleeping beacuse i drink caffine drinks so the meds absorb the caffine and the ocd is about me worring that i smell bad i have been suffering with this mental illness for 4 and a half years and have taken 3 types of medication which was respiridone. amisulpride and aquiprisul. the resiridone kept me awake and gave me an appitite so has the amisulpride but that also made the voices become horrible then the aquiprisul made me feel light, tired and faint. i just need to talk to people with it to help me. i hope to hear from you soon to see how your brother is. thank you bye.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 517,021There is a reason you want to get off Seroquel. I was on it an recently got off it. It made me have panic attacks.
I did it with the help of Xanax and a lot of support from a close family member. I backed off 100 mg at a time, and was on Xanax 1 mg day and Temezepam 10mg for sleep.
Even with the meds, it is important that the people around you support you getting off Seroquel. It is so powerful and affects your sleep and appetite, and your whole life.
It seemed to work when I was hospitalized, but I was in a very excited state, and welcomed anything to help me. But it sooned turned into a prison of it's own.
Sleeplessness, Insommia, Appetite changes.. Back Off Slow with a lot of family support. The doctors will try to keep you on it, they make money of you misery, and complicating your sickness.

Seroquel is EVIL.
It made me really mad, and i was ok... only had a taquicardy, and they put me on that....
Now i dont know if i ever come back to normality, like before.

if you are talking about heart pain or arrythmias look into taking fish oil and taurine. The combination of these has helped my heart feel and beat normally when before it was very painful and had irregular beats. Keep in mind I am still on the medication. Look into lecithin as the brain is made up of lecithin and definately into fish oil as that has some heart and definate brain/mood/thinking benefits. I am currently getting more information on what other amino acids could be useful.
But for the heart I recomend taurine and fish oil to help keep the heart in good shape. Its worked for me.

This is a reply to # 516,983At age 20 I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I am in my early 50's now. I have been able to keep my sanity and avoid Tardive Dyskensia (side affects) by avoiding the traditional meds, Haldol, Prolixin, Thorazine, etc. I have never heard voices or saw hallucinations, etc.
I was able to work successfully in every major industry and obtain graduate education. At age 49 I was in crisis due to a divorce after a 20 year plus marriage. After the devastation of the divorce (not my fault).
I was admitted to the hospital, they started me on Seroquel 600 mg, and for the short term it was better than the usual Haldol, Thorazine, etc. However; during 4 year on 400 Mg, it started me to have my Panic Attacks, Fear Reactions, etc. It took me 5 months to get off it slowly by decreasing my doses, using Xanax which is also now stopped.
I think LONGTERM Seroquel is Evil and Creates Psychosis! I think many of the Psychotropics benefit the Doctors more than the Patients by creating disease where the is NONE! - Re: Seroquel patients? Any Drug Indu... Stealthy888

I was on 400mg for 4 years, the doctors perscribed 600mg in the hospital, but after I went home and because I could not tolerate 600mg, I backed down to 400mg.
I kept telling the doctors I was on 600mg, because I know Pyschiatric Doctors are medication happy! Especially at government facilities.
I also would have a tough time sleeping without it, and would have the half awake dream like states which were more like nightmares, when I missed a dose.
I would take it over the 4 years and it caused me to have Panic Attacks and Fear reactions, when I did not have them before. I had Ranitine because it causes STOMACH UPSET to take Also; I would BINGE EAT! and had Nausea daily!
I was able to get off by backing off 100mg at a time, and the use of Xanax (anxiety) and Temezepam (sleep). I believe that Seroquel over the short term MAYBE? OK?
But longterm use damages the patient.
