longterm
I read that you should not take more than 3,000 mg fish oil per day. I think you should try for 1,000 mg to start. But, I would use the plant-based version of omega 3 instead of the seafood-based version.
Have you ever tried fish oil supplements before, but stopped because it gave you gas? I remember this happened to me in the past, but it isn't a side effect for most people unless you have a problem absorbing fat. Now, celiac disease tends to cause a problem absorbing fat. I don't know if accutane use creates this problem as well. If you do notice gas after you take omega 3 supplements, then you will know that you have a problem absorbing fat. In that case, I recommend lipase digestive enzymes. I also don't know if algae will cause gas since it's plant based (it's a more common problem). If so, a digestive enzyme like Beano will help with that.
Here are some suggestions I read to reduce gas while taking these supplements:
- Take the supplement right after eating a meal.
- Take a time-released capsule so your body doesn't get too much at once or start with a smaller dose capsule and gradually increase it throughout the day.
- Freeze the capsules.
