As some of you know, I've been fighting parasites, especially strongyloides, for a long time. In desperation, I joined a certain user's mailing list for awhile, and the information I got recently is not only FALSE, but is DANGEROUS.
The way I became hyperinfected with strongyloides was because I have lupus, and one of the main treatments for lupus is steroids - Prednisone, to be exact. After I started taking the steroids for lupus, I started having this horribly painful itch on my arm, which eventually spread to my other arm, and got so bad at one point that I had to carry extra-strength lidocaine cream around with me everywhere and put icepacks on my arms to stop the itch so I could go to sleep. Soon after that, I started using coconut oil on my arms at night, and the itch subsided. Then I torn my rotator cuff and again, they gave me Prednisone. That's when I got really sick. IBS so bad I was screaming in pain, my whole body felt like it was on fire, and something was crawling around in my eye and on my head, among other symptoms. I started looking up "worms in eyes" and found Curezone and started out taking Humaworm and for the first time in YEARS I felt somewhat normal.
After reading many, many PubMed studies, even subscribing for a year once (very expensive, btw) so I could read more, I discovered that I probably had strongyloides and the steroids were probably responsible for my symptoms, causing me to be hyperinfected. The one thing that stood out in all the reports was the you NEVER EVER TAKE STEROIDS with strongyloides and that if you do not treat a hyperinfection, you have a 70% chance of dying.
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO COMPARES YOU TO A FARM ANIMAL AND TELLS YOU IT'S O.K TO TAKE STEROIDS FOR STRONGYLOIDES!!
Seriously, just don't! I've read and read all this mailing list crap and this person is a textbook example of delusional parasitosis, and people are acting like they are GOD.
Taking experimental mega-doses of multiple strong pharmaceutical drugs while not under a doctor's supervision can be deadly. I know this fight is hard, and it's long and it's so frustrating. I've many times thought it was over for me, and it came back. Strongyloides is not curable unless it's caught in its very early stages before they begin to encyst themselves.
Treat strongyloides like a chronic illness and do what you can to keep it under control, but PLEASE, if there is one thing I can convince you not to do, DO NOT TAKE STEROIDS. Unless you just want to die, and then save yourself some pain and off yourself another way.

A TRUE LIVING HELL! more than just strongloides inside me. particulary day 15 of good strong meds. ivermectin albendozole doxycycline good all spectrum wormers that are only availiable to patients with cancer or liver brain tape worm at home . in oz cost of my meds 46 plus 55 week. allbendozole sold over the counter in thai one month cost me under $10. my id dr told me during a freaky moment for me. that there are 280,000 different paraistes to infect human 100 are tested any more & it costs $ 500 usd each test. so i hope you find your cure K

The email was a question, from the curezone, a question of a reader who asked why use a steroid?
The answer, from the most respected authority on Strongyloides I know, Sharkman, described the proper use, to prevent intestines from exploding.
I suggest you learn to read.

Maybe this is just a new thread on the dangers of steriods for those whose hyperinfect became chronic while on steroids. A heavy use of steroids can cause serious complications in some people, and then there's no help from our doctors once the damage is done. I asked him, Complication?
Well 8 years later, and 3 hyperinfections later, I am here to tell you Steroids can be death. I have read many reports. It is like Russian roulette.
Ultimately the doctor decides, and the consequences show up later.
We must be informed of Steroid use, What the risks are, and how to recover when a hyperinfection is the result.
There are medical uses for Steroids, that is why doctors decide. If your intestine is about to explode, I guess ok, save life, fix parasites second.
If you have not been tested for parasites, do not take a steroid, period, at any age.
The doctor could click on a bullet.

This is a reply to # 2,310,862While I am not an expert, there are large stongyloides and Small Strongyles in horses: The strongyloides can be 30 inches in horses, and the Strongyles are much smaller. I believe it is the smaller version that is a problem, mainly due to the filarial component.
Strongyles migrate mainly in the wall of the intestine. This causes a weakening and thinning of the horse intestine wall.
In humans:
A number of nematodes infect the intestine.

A large accumulation of Ascarids may cause obstruction and rupture, Ascaris can cause rupture of the apendicitis, Taenia saginata can cause peritonitis, or sepsis. Strongyloides lead to a thinning of the human intestine epithelial wall...
Strongyloides in humans:
Dissemination occurs upon larval migration to organs beyond the range of the pulmonary phase, such as the liver, heart, lymph nodes, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, and brain (Keiser & Nutman, 2004).
Petechiae and purpura have also been reported in disseminated cases as a result of larval migration through vessel walls, which promotes haemorrhage (Basile et al., 2010). Others complications of disseminated strongyloidiasis can occur and include syndromes such as cholecystitis, pancreatitis, paralytic ileus, intestinal perforation or infarction, peritonitis, and sepsis (Kris hnan et al., 2006)
In recent decades, hyperinfection syndrome has increased significantly with the use of immunosuppressive drug therapy.
Corticosteroid s are widely prescribed drugs with potent immunosuppressive effects and are a major risk factor for the transformation of chronic strongyloidiasis into hyperinfection, which has a higher index of mortality (Armignacco et al., 1989; Al Maslamani et al., 2009).

This is a reply to # 2,310,746I'm kinda lost here man. So from what you said, it seems that you have started to take steroids for your lupus infection that you received from a doctor.
Then are you blaming people for saying it's OK to take Prednisone if you have a parasite infection?
If I recall, you started taking them for your lupus and you became infected with parasites and continued to take them.
Now are you pissed because others told you it's OK to take them while you have lupus and Prednisone?
This isn't a MD community but a source of info from what people know.

This is a reply to # 2,310,842It might not be my place to make a comment but any steroid suppresses immunity which is a well known fact. It is better to support the body's own production of cortisol with supporting the adrenals via nutritionals.
Other drugs meant to 'treat' conditions such as Psoriasis are dangerous since they suppress certain components of the immune system. These can create serious infections. Due diligence is always necessary before starting anything.- Re: WARNING - Faulty information bei... HappyRaptor

Yes, that's true, but with lupus, your immune system is hyperactive and trying to destroy you, so you have to try to suppress it. That's why they use steroids. This is a reply to # 2,311,007I don't think that is necessary unless you have very specific, parasite-related symptoms. Every living thing has parasites. Healthy individuals don't experience symptoms because their immune system keeps them in check. Anyone with comprised immunity (lupus, Lyme, cancer, Crohn's disease) has parasites. If you have lupus you most certainly have parasites. Could be what caused the lupus...

This is a reply to # 2,310,842That's not what I said. Read it again. I did not know I was given Prednisone BEFORE I knew I was infected with parasites. The immunosuppresive action of the Prednisone caused the strongyloides to go into hyperinfection, which is when I first started noticing them. Before, I imagine the hyperimmunity caused by the lupus was keeping them in check, while causing other problems. Catch-22 situation. Took Prednisone for lupus (not knowing I had strongyloides at the time), other problems do not get better, instead, strongyloides go hyperinfection and make me even sicker. Doctors think it's a reaction to the steroids. I was never even tested for parasites until I forced a doctor to give me an ELISA test, where they found the strongyloides.

I also think you misunderstood. Info here is given purely informatively. Also, of course no one will ever tell you should be taking steroids while hyper. But there are several studies where these were used to reduce inflammation. Because, if you were going to die from a die off, some medicals might decide better use the steroids: of course here no one is using them while self medicating. This is why it is used in a hospital setting. No one here is acting like a God. You can of course decide what advice to take and what not. This is a reply to # 2,310,849Trust me, some people here take everything that certain users say as gospel. I've seen it too many times over the years, where people have actually gotten much worse by believing the wrong thing.
Plus, when you're sending out information that is very complicated, some people will misunderstand it. I just wanted to let them know what the deal is.
Of course, if you are under a doctor's supervision, you have to inform yourself and make your own choices. I'm just saying that parasites in animals are way different in most cases than parasites in humans, and you can't possibly compare the two treatments.

If you have any kind of parasite don't take steroids. It lets them get out of control. The only time the doctors give steroids with a parasitic infection is when you have tape worm in your brain and them dying will cause your brain to swell and kill you. This is a reply to # 2,310,860Thank you matt for understanding,i want to say that there is no right or wrong, but this disease is horrific. Steriod use when chronicaly infested with parasites can make the diffrrence between disabled or able to function in the world as it is today. I had a colon about to explode from so many parasites. Mega colon they called it. The worms then moved outside the colon. Crippling me. Death would be a blessing compared to the horror ive gone through, evenstill I lived thru it. To be even more horrified by abusive doctors who scripted me 5 albendazole and said im cured. 100 prazi's later iam still infested with 12" worms who are stunned upon mega doses of prazi but will not die. We here are the worst cases in america, so rare, and still unknown. Undiagnosed. We could make history if only doctors wld listen and learn. What a fate, why? If not to create awareness then why go through this for year after year? I feel defeated. So incrediably sad. So much suffering, and for what? To not even help the few others screaming for answers. What a waste of a life. I am so sad, and so sick. I cant even get disability because doctors cant see the worms, as big as snakes, eating my body. Jesus.

This is a reply to # 2,310,903Let's just concede that not everyone will get to the level that you were at. They probably won't get to the level that even I am at. Each situation is different, and if you are deathly ill, a doctor should be involved, and you should do what is necessary to stay alive.
On the other hand, if I had not told the doctors I was not taking anymore of their steroids, I would probably be dead. They wanted me to just reduce the dosage or "take a break" from them. Something told me that was not right, so I quit taking them.

So can you give the name of the steroid pusher or a quote of this person saying it's ok to take steroids . Since you brought up farm animals I believe you were making a comment to me .I wouldn't have come to this conclusion if it wasn't for Matt making that assumption from what you wrote ,and you not making any effort in correcting him . I challenge anyone on curezone to post anything I said about taking steroids in treatment of parasites . 2 years of steroids gave me stage 5 strongyloides which included , anemia , jaundice and malabsorption along with millions of worms causing rashes on over half my body. I was given steroids by a dr for colitis which means swollen butthole in lay mans terms. Then I was sent to a dermatologist who gave me flagyl to help with the rashes after the steroids . I wish I was treated by a farm dr in the beginning instead of losing 4 years of my health to modern human medicine. Matt is not a doctor, and he gives advice for free. Whatever someone's conclusion is from that, is their own individual issue. If they accuse someone, it is because they dont know better. In the end i dont think it is personal.

This is a reply to # 2,312,653No, unless she lied about that, but I've never heard of a real doctor pretending NOT to be a doctor. Most are pretty damn proud of that title. I think she just did a lot of research on the subject. Either way, this is the Internet. Don't believe everything you read and use your best judgement when following someone else's advice.
