I started on
Iodine about a month ago and after my 2nd day of 50mg Iodoral, I had more energy and less brain fog in years. I did have some low grade headaches, so I continued with salt loading/salt pushing.
I had standard detox symptoms in the beginning (zits, sore throat, running nose) as well as constant mild headaches. I slowly worked up to about ~500mg
SSKI (a few days I did ~900mg
SSKI ) and 50mg Iodoral.
However, headaches still weren't going away so I looked at the situation some more. About a month ago I had intracellular testing done for electrolytes and although potassium and sodium individually were semi-middle of functional normal, my potassium level in relation to sodium was on the very bottom of functional normal. So, I thought maybe I was pushing that further out of whack with all the salt.
I stopped being excessive with the salt loading (stopped pushes) and the headaches are mostly gone. However, for the last couple weeks my fatigue has been back hardcore. I'm still taking a lot of
Iodine as well as all the co-supplements I started with in the beginning when I felt well.
The only other changes since the start of
Iodine are adding Ionic Magnesium (previously I only did Transdermal), Milk Thistle, Vitamin A, K2-M4 and a little D (D previously gave me headaches in any amount, with the A+K2 I'm handling a little). I have tried to increase my potassium supplementation from ~400mg to closer to ~800mg-~1200mg/day but I have had severe gas/bloating and diarrhea the last few days. Searching online it sounds like potassium supplements can do that? Most potassium is found in fruits (except spinach which I do get a lot of), and I don't eat fruits that often due to blood
Sugar spikes.
How much Potassium have others been able to supplement with and not have GI issues? If I continue with Transdermal Magnesium (Magnesium Chloride), is that a sufficient replacement for the salt loading? My understanding is that the salt loading is so that the chloride will displace bromine and that your body has other means of getting rid of chloride. Or were there other things the salt loading are in place for?
I'm really bummed that after thinking Iodine seemed the last missing piece in my road for health (I felt so great for the first week or so) that I'm back to the drawing board.
Thanks for any thoughts!
