I've been on SSRIs for 15 years, and levothyroxine for around a decade. I probably have metal poisoning.
I am 30 but my health is rapidly deteriorating. For an entire week now I've been almost permanently dizzy, vertigo spells every couple of minutes, weak, jittery, cold, fatigued, stiff joints, headache, hair falling out in hand fulls (which I didn;t think was possible as I've not got much hair left). I have a goiter (fairly small but big enough to obstruct my breathing and swallowing, and I can always feel it there like a choking bloating pressure), and the skin on my body is that of someone at least twice my age. My liver is faltering, as are my kidneys. My pancreas is near dead. My moods have gone crazy. My anxiety id through the roof. I'm losing the abiklity to type, write, speak and think coherently. The stress of all this is further taxing my adrenals.
I don't know if my GP/PCP or endo will prescribe HC. They seem to believe levothyroxine is the only answer. Even if they were to rx HC, I'm terrified of the side effects.
I am fast thinking suicide would be my only option.
Unless the Addison's strikes me down before I get the opportunity. I want to recover, not die. But if I cannot recover then I cannot go on existing like this. I have no semblance of a life any more, and if it can only get worse then it is pointless going on.

This is a reply to # 2,018,151I'm thinking diet is the biggest part of your problem and most people here for that matter.
After being real sick for years and taking every supplement under the sun, a high-carb/low-fat diet is what has gotten me so much better from the high protein, high fat, low fruit diet I was on.
Basically you want to eat a diet in the direction of 80-10-10; 80% carbs, 10% protein, and 10% fats. Whole unprocessed foods of course with a lot of raw food. Lots of fruit too!
A lot of your issues look like you're not getting enough carbs and calories also which can cause lots of psychological issues along with physical issues of course. You want to get most of your calories from fruit, tubers (eg potatoes, carrots), or whole grains although for you, you'll probably want to avoid grains for awhile in case you have leaky gut syndrome (autoimmune).
At least get the following amount of calories per day: 2,500 (female) or 3,000 (male).
Also the amount of carbs you should get per day is 5 grams times your healthy body weight.
If you have Sugar cravings, that definitely means you're not getting enough carbs per day and be aware that eating too much fat can block your body's ability to absorb enough glucose into your cells.

This is a reply to # 2,018,151I respectfully disagree with Natway. Diet is an important factor, but all of our bodies and situations are different, so I would definitely not accept a fruit/carb diet and expect it to make a big dent in a situation as complex as yours by itself. This advice is misleading as a cure all, but it still may or may not have value for certain people or as a piece of the healing puzzle.
That being said, the goiter may imply hashimotos. Hashimotos is connected to celiac disease and gluten intolerance, so if you have not looked there I would do so. Celiac ravages the body.
Also, metal poisoning does seem likely. Not as easy thing to test for, 2 options are a urine challenge test or a hair mineral analysis test from ARL labs. The hair test is an excellent way to look into some of the different dynamics going on in your body.
Lastly, go to a naturopath, they will probly be much more helpful than a gp. Hang in there, lots of people recover and many can and do get better myself included. SSRI's aren't good for you, but I don't believe they doom us.

MoreThis is a reply to # 2,018,226I agree with Seattlek, especially about the diet part. I would not advise anyone to do 80% carbs unless when you say carbs, you mean vegetables? Fruit is full of Sugar and bread/potatoes/starches turn into sugar. I'm NOT saying fruit and lets say sweet potatoes are bad. But I think each person will find a different diet that works for them... Ultimately, common sense tells you that vegetables are good for you.

This is a reply to # 2,018,441First I said "in the direction" of eating 80-10-10, not necessarily eat exactly that.
Second, what are you going to fuel all your cells with if not by sugar, especially your brain? Why do you think low-carbers (I was one of them) are always craving carbs, feeling brain-fog, binging on sweets, and needing stimulants? It's because they are under-carbed and not getting enough Sugar into their cells.
The only sugars that are bad are highly man-made processed sugars, not sugars from fruit, unless you think God or Mother Nature f***ed up.
After I got off my poisonous high protein/high fat diet, I've been eating more fruit than I ever have before and I'm feeling better and better and my blood Sugar levels test not only in normal range, but perfect range.
If you look in the raw food/vegetarian/health food movement, the only ones who say too much fruit is bad are the ones who are selling supplements and gimmicks.

This is a reply to # 2,018,454The 80/10/10 diet is fine to embark on if you have no severe imbalance going on with the body.
I too have mercury toxicity issues, candida, hypo-thyroid and adrenals and for the past 12 weeks embarked on a cleanse diet - so a friend, well-meaning, suggested 80/10/10.
Stuffing my face with fruit all day but still feeling like i was under-nourished - i needed 'something'. I'm well aware of latent craving yelling out when one is on a cleanse - but after that stage i continued to go through hell and certainly never experienced any detoxed, renewed energy or anything.
In fact, i became more and more unresponsive to life and more and more inclined to end this unresponsive existence.
D. Graham even says himself that a candida sufferer can't expect to cure themselves on 80/10/10. I saw a renegade health vid the other day of him saying that 80/10/10 isn't a cure-all way of eating.
Other practitioners have discovered that what is 'considered' to be an alkaline food has an alkalising effect on one person, but can have an acidifying effect on another. It shows how individual body constitutions really respond differently to 'same' treatments.
For the life of me i wish there was 'one rule nutrition' that works wonders for EVERYONE.
My friend has been on 80/10/10 for about 4 yrs - he's been suffering all the way - brain fog, no energy, sensitive eyes, huge fatigue - mental and physical. He recovered from cancer by embracing a whole food diet and showed huge improvements - since being on 80/10/10 he has struggled.He has mercury issues tho' - which is impossible to feel super with, despite the diet.
I've been vegetarian since i was allowed to buy my own food...always hated the taste of meat as a kid. The texture repulsed me...i was the only kid wanting a huge plate of vegetables at dinner!
Hair analysis results recently show inability to process protein. Inability to detox. All mineral ratios way out of whack, hypo-adrenals, thyroid, aluminium and mercury.
I've been a 'whole-fooder' for over a decade. Raw food 60% for 5 years. Swayed to 20% raw. Whole fruit diets. All cooked diets. Nothing makes me feel any different - just different digestive response.
My system is stuck in toxic mode and i have no idea how to shift it's gear. I've been extremely active throughout life - i think i'm the only hypo adrenal-thyroid that is actually LOSING weight fast. I'm 5'7", just under 7 stone, with my clothes on. Never have i weighed so little..always thought i averaged 8.5 stone.
I feel and empathise hugely with the OP because when the body is so out of balance, and the symptoms are to be tolerated 24/7, the mind isn't functioning so fully, making each imbalance seem a bigger monster.
I sway all the time. Some hours i'm super positive...i'll do some chores - but alot of hours i'm extremely low and devitalised. Yesterday i was chronically suicidal....today i'm in a numb, can't-kill-myself-if-i-tried place. I'm swaying like a dying willow tree.
I KNOW through tests i've had done myself - not through my GP - he wanted me on anti-depressants and counselling...the imbalances i'm suffering with. If i went by symptomtic diagnosis alone i would have made myself worse as i was convinced i was HYPER adrenal, thyroid. But i was hyper emotionally...stressed to the max, pushing my body, when it was all done-in.
I asked the GP for adrenal and thyroid tests - he told me my symptoms were 'in my head'. Sure - he was right ...mercury lodged in my head, ruining many body processes. Mercury gravitates towards the endocrine glands..specifically the thyroid! (Pituitary and hypothalamus too) I'm not quoting other site's opinion on mercury - i've been reading independent studies for months now , performed over many decades on it's hugely toxic effects to biological life.
If diet could turn all this around i would have found it. It's only part of the equation.
I would recommend hair analysis to anyone wanting to know fully their mineral balance/imbalance. Arizona research labs are meant to be one of the best.
I can't tell you #160844 if life is worth all this suffering. If you were in my life i would want to help you everyday. I'm great at helping others get better - never myself! I hope that at least knowing there is somewhere you can come to and share where you're at - without judgement, helps you feel you're not alone on this journey...there are many hands on that tether you are gripping.
