John,
Don't exercise too much. That is a stressor as well. Don't start hitting heavy weights and doing agressive intense exercise.
Here is a study showing elevated hair cortisol in endurance athletes.

And...one of the stressors that Dr Hans Selye used hwen he basically discovered adrenal fatigue in the 30's was to expose the rats to excessive exercise. The rats organs failed just like they did for every other stressor.
Gentle exercise is better. Walks, Yoga. You don't want to get your heart rate up too high.
Hi Craig,
Unfortunately, masturbation and porn are VERY hard on your adrenal glands. ANYTHING that stimulates adrenaline (epinephrine) can contribute to adrenal fatigue.
In the book “Adrenaline and Stress”, by Dr Archibald Hart, he list “anything that excites you” as a source of stress.
Here are a couple of studies on Pubmed.
Endocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm in healthy men following a 3-week sexua| abstinence.
Orgasm increased blood pressure, heart rate, plasma catecholamines and prolactin.
It is clearly increasing activity of the sympathetic side of the nervous system. Anything that does that...will lead to adrenal fatigue if experienced too often.
Specificity of the neuroendocrine response to orgasm during sexua| arousal in men.
sexua| activity induced transient increases of plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine levels during orgasm with a rapid decline thereafter
And you don’t have to go all the way to orgasm for it to be a problem. I’ve had set-backs (increased insomnia, anxiety), just from looking at porn for a few days. It is extremely stimulating.
If you are exposed to enough stresors long enough, or continually, you will train your nervous system to be stuck in this state.
Your internal set-point for cortisol becomes set higher, mineral imbalances start to accumulate, which creates a slow ball affect. For exampe, magnesium deficiency becomes a problem, which leads to more stress, which leads to more magnesium dumping.
Whether or not masturbation was the original cause or the main cause of his adrenal fatigue doesn't matter. It is just another stressor that will make him worse if he continues.
Traditional Chinese Medicine also believes that excessive sexua| activity leads to health problems. They have seen it for a few thousand years. They blamed it on a loss of fluids because they didn't have a good understanding of hormones.
Dr Hans Selye exposed rats to excessive exercise and many other stressors and they always ended up in the same condition. They ended up with adrenal fatigue. Presumably the rats didn't have emotional issues ;)
It's kind of like one more straw on the camels back. Myself and my 4 sisters all have adrenal fatigue to some extent since our mother was a Type-A, under a lot of stress.
So we were all born sympathetic dominant. I am far worse than my sisters since I was an exercise fanatic and masturbated almost every day for 20 years. They did not crash like I did. But they are super hyper, and have many symptoms of mild adrenal fatigue.
Basically...I never ever shut down for years until I crashed. I used to take pride in the fact that I never rested.
I believe it has a lot to do with epigenetics, which states that the environment your parents are exposed to has a HUGE impact in the illnesses you will or will not have.
Now....I definitely don't discount emotional issues. I use energy medicine to try to clear up subconscious beliefs that may be creating stress.
But don't put all your eggs in that basket. You need to get rid of all stressors.
If you are doing a great job of dealing with emotional issues, but you are still exposing yourself you other stressors, it won't work.
And how do you know some of these olympic athletes won’t eventually crash. I felt like an energy machine until I was 35.....long after the olympic cameras would have been off me.
