Miracle-Mineral-Supplement (sodium chlorite) protocol match those documented for chlorine dioxide poisoning: rapid heart rate, skin irritation, nausea, vomiting. This suggests that the usage of
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement may be producing chlorine dioxide when ingested. The reaction mechanism for an aldehyde and sodium chlorite in an acidic environment produces chlorine dioxide as one of the products:
CH3CHO + 3HClO2 -> CH3COOH + HCl + 2ClO2 + H2O
CH3CHO acetaldehyde
HClO2 chlorous acid
CH3COOH acetic acid
HCl hydrochloric acid
ClO2 chlorine dioxide
H2O water
The acetaldehyde is neutralized to harmless acetic acid but chlorine dioxide is a toxic by-product.
Truss proposed in 1984 [*] that the commensal yeast Candida Albicans is capable of producing acetaldehyde in the gut during its processing of sugars and carbohydrates in the diet via the decarboxylation of pyruvate:
CH3COCOOH -> CH3CHO + CO2
CH3COCOOH pyruvate
CH3CHO acetaldehyde
CO2 carbon dioxide
The fact that individuals who have used
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement trade off one set of symptoms (Ach exposure) for another (ClO2 exposure) may be the elusive evidence that toxic acetaldehyde is indeed being produced in vivo. Fortunately, there are other less risk-prone methods that are just as effective for dealing with and reducing the production of acetaldehyde generated in this manner.
