I forgot to mention that I have also talked with the company and they told me that it is necessary for bare skin to be in contact with the earthing product.
Howdy Jim, Uny here...
The last paragraph quote that you pasted from the manufacture is what I am referring to. If you use the 10 x 20 inch carbonized rubber Mat without the optional cover, but instead with wearing light cotton socks, you will get a ground. Also again the rubber mat if used in your bed, it will make a conductive ground connection through very light cotton PJs or socks. Yet both the book and Willowley's and I's phone calls 'say' that bare skin contact is preferable. I'm no electro-whiz, but anyone with even a bit of knowledge of electricity & grounding knows that it's best to have a 'direct connection' rather than one through 'light cotton'. They recommended to Willowley to NOT use the cover for the mat (that they enclose) for the best ground...even though it's made of conductive fiber.
The Earthing Sheet products will Not do this, as they are not as intensely conductive it seems as the rubber mat. The problem with the mat though is that it is small for the bed. But I do know many people using the mat only in the bed with great results. Hmmm, I'm always willing to learn - can you define more clearly the phrase "intensely conductive"? And explain why you feel a conductive sheet would be "less conductive" than a conductive mat. I've already got a list of questions for the Institute, and I'll be including that one when I email them.
I want to state that I am a retailer for the Earthing products from the manufacture you are referring to so I know what I am talking about. With all due respect (and I mean that sincerely and I'm not trying to be sarcastic) - but being a retailer for any product does not necessarily ensure "knowing". There is product tester also which will indicate if there is flow from the product into the person's body which also verifies that it works with some light clothing, but the best results is how well you sleep and feel in the morning.
Yes, I've used the 'product tester' quite a bit, and see quite clearly that the sheet is conductive, the mat is conductive, and that a light cotton piece of fabric doesn't hinder the 'green light' coming on. So the 'product tester' obviously doesn't test (as you said) the "intensity" of the ground connection. In fact, Katie (at earthing.com) was quite clear that the 'product tester' doesn't test for a ground, but rather it tests merely for 'conductivity' (something I've also got on my list of questions for the Institute, because her response doesn't resonate correctly with me). When I apply the 'product tester' to my skin and I'm standing on the mat, the light comes on - but when I'm standing on rubber-soled shoes, the light does NOT come on. I'm definitely "conductive" whether I'm grounded or not, eh? So the tester must test for a ground connection.
I definitely have no intention of "detailing this to death" - after all 'a ground is a ground is a ground' - it's certainly not rocket-science, nor do I want anyone on this forum stressing about unneccesary details. But as a forum owner (and Willowley as a moderator), well, we both take this responsibility very seriously. So I hope we're not conveying disrespect; this topic (and these products) is still in it's 'scientific infancy' (although grounding has been used therapeutically for centuries). We just want to work through the conflicting statements/info to make sure we've "got it right" when it comes to the details.
Blessings,
Unyquity
Here is the information on how to fit the bed pad on you bed. I hope this information is helpful.
Water
Earthing Bed Pad
Place your bare feet, legs, or any other bare skin of the body on the pad to be grounded during sleep. The bed pad is a natural color poly/cotton (36 x 120") with conductive silver fibers woven into the fabric.
The pad can be placed across the foot or center of the bed, over your bottom fitted sheet and tucked under and around the mattress. It can also be used lengthwise. The Earthing bed pad fits all bed sizes.
Hi Sandy,
I'm sorry I haven't responded to your posts until now, I'm going to cover them all in this one post. I'm so happy that you got the starter kit, I think the plethora of benefits one will see is truly amazing!
Today I placed my "foot mat" on the chair in my office and just sat on it most of the day since it seemed rally unnatural for me to keep my feet on the mat on the floor at all times. Maybe it's cos I have short legs, maybe it's cos I like to tuck one or both legs under me as I type--but it just seemed easier to sit on it. Hopefully that's not a proble...didn't see anything on i in the book or start up instructions.
I find I was having trouble keeping both feet on my mat too lol! My legs aren't short, I just have the bad habit of sitting on one or the other of my feet, but since I've had the mat I've much improved that bad habit (not at all good for the circulation!). I find that I keep my bare feet on the mat (without the cover) about 90% of the time now. When I feel like I must put a foot under me, I only keep it there long enough to assuage my bad habit lol, but the other foot stays on the mat. As far as sitting on the mat, Sheila from the company (who has worked with Clint Ober for 11 years) told me I should use the mat without the cover and put my bare skin on the mat. I know they show a picture of a lady sitting on the mat on their website so there is some conflicting information on the instructions, I'll touch on that later in the post. If you're putting your bare feet up under you on the mat (without the cover) then I would think that is fine.
Just a quick follow up since it's been about a week now - I definitely am sleeping better while using the sheet (although I thought I read somewhere that earthing would also help tight neck muscles relax, and I am still waiting to see results there).
I had those tight shoulder/neck muscles too, after the second night I felt they were at least 50% less tight. Mine were so tense that my shoulders/neck hurt all the time. It's one of those things you get used to, know what I mean? I can't exactly remember how many nights it took (maybe a week?) but all the pain/tightness is gone now! YAY!!! If that doesn't clear up for you within a month maybe you could try the patches for localized pain, or, it wouldn't hurt for you to lie down with the mat (without the cover) curved around your neck for as long as you could stand it, I would imagine it would't be comfortable but it's worth a shot huh?
I will try the lengthwise, since I want the most connection & connectivity possible.
This is something else that Jim has said that directly conflicts (no offense Jim, just sayin') with what the book says (and all their double blind studies) and what I've been told from the company and what people have testified on videos. Uny posted a video of a lady who only used the wrist band at first and got almost completely off her sleep medication with just the band.
Uny and I will get to the bottom of this and find out the "correct" facts of the matter since we are recommending their products on this forum! And as Uny pointed out to me last night, when Clint did his trials on people he used only the patches and he got fantastic results! So in the meantime I wouldn't stress too much about being "more" grounded by having "more" bare skin on the product.
Which, of course brings up the question of why it isn't wider, hence circles me back to my original thought on the awkward measurements/shape, lol.
Just wondering why they can't just make bed sheets in the standard size?
I'm right there with you on that lol! I would be much more comfortable with a whole fitted sheet. They used to have them, as a matter of fact they just sold out of the queen size fitted sheet. Sheila from Earthing.com told me that they were working on getting fitted sheets in various sizes again. I am currently using mine at the foot of the bed, but if it gets at all wrinkled it bugs me so I'm re-tucking it tightly every night before I go to bed.
I would imagine that when they manufacture the sheet/pad it is much cheaper to have a 36" width instead of 48" or even 60", there are a lot of people who can't afford even the 36" sheet/pad in this economy let alone a larger one...maybe that's it. Maybe they didn't sell a lot of the fitted sheets due to the expense. If I'm not mistaken, the queen sheet they just sold out of was $269. When/if they ever do get the fitted sheets again, I'll be one of the first in line to buy one lol!
Abundant blessings,
Willow
Here is what the FAQ says about washing the sheet.
Q. How long will an Earthing sheet last before it wears out?
A. Sheets made with cotton, polyester, and conductive silver fiber have withstood rigorous testing conducted by an independent testing lab. After 100 wash/dry cycles, the conductive silver fibers show virtually no breakage or wear. When cared for properly, your sheet should last as long as any good quality bed sheet. It is also recommended that no body lotions or creams be applied before bedtime to any part of the body that will come in direct contact with the sheet. The reason for this is that the creams can easily become absorbed into the sheets. The oils they contain become oxidized by the air and can diminish the conductivity of the silver threads.
I talked to Sheila at Earthing.com, she has a testimony on page 132 of the book and has been working with Clint Ober for 11 years. I asked her about washing the sheet and she said she washes hers with a very mild laundry soap and puts it in the dryer. She told me the brand of soap she uses but I don't remember because I only use Miracle II soap for my laundry and it's very mild.
Aren't you just thrilled that the sheet works? I know you've gotta be cause I am!!! No more insomnia YAY ;) I'll post tomorrow on how I'm enjoying it.
Thank you Martin, you've answered a question that I was going to call and ask Sheila regarding fabric softener. I figured that you couldn't use it but I wanted to make sure.
So..... could you give me any tips on how to make the sheet softer? It seems to have gotten rougher after the first washing. I was even thinking about ironing it to get the wrinkles lol but I'm sure we shouldn't do that either. Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated!
Willow
Hi Raider,
I'm glad you found the thread too, welcome to the forum!
I have no idea what Thieved oil is so I can't comment on that.
Have you read the book that came with the sheet? The reason I ask is that in the book they say that not everyone will see/feel the benefits right away. They also say that it's possible that some people will feel sluggish and kind of achey like they're getting the flu for the first few days. They explain this saying that the grounding might have triggered a detoxification response in the body and promoted the release of toxins.
I would say like with anything, each body reacts differently to things. I think that the results a person sees also must have to do with their state of health when they grounding/earthing. I guess it will be hard for you to tell since you don't sleep on the sheet every night. Maybe you could take the sheet with you? Just a thought.
I'd hang in there if I were you ;) this has made a HUGE difference in my life!
Blessings,
Willow
