The prevention of chronic disease is really quite simple and uncomplicated: be free from toxemia and support the health of the body via a nutrient-dense plant-based diet which in turn supports an extremely powerful immune system.
That is way over simplified. The immune system is a lot more complicated than that. For example I have been asked so many times how to boost the immune system. What part? T-killer cells? B-cells? Eosinophils? Basophils? Interferons? Interleukins? Peroxides? SOD? GPHx? SeMPHx? CAT? TNF? The bone marrow? Thymus? Adrenals? Lymphatic system? Boosting the acids that protect us from disease? Building the flora?............................... Yes, the list goes on. Again the immune system is not a singular thing, nor can be supported by an individual thing.
In addition there are viruses out there that target key components of the immune system. Therefore they can knock out the immune system even if you are healthy or eat nutrient rich foods. I wonder how many people here who think they are really healthy and eat well that would be willing to take an injection of Ebola? At least if they are wrong they will know within a day, right before they bleed to death from every orifice in their body.
but in my experience, and that of many others, no virus can take hold within the body, unless it has a "medium" within it to thrive: toxemia.
This is true to an extent, but there is so much more involved in immunity, cancer, viruses taking hold, etc.
I do not doubt that cancer can be caused by a virus, but we are forgetting that there are many carcinogens other than viruses and multiple causes of cancer.
I never said that the only cause of cancer is viruses. I said the MAJORITY of cancers are caused from viruses. There are other causes including bacteria, fungi, very rarely parasites, radiation, and yes other carcinogens. Although I feel that most carcinogens are not causes of cancer but rather promoters of existing cancers. For example Premarin used for estrogen replacement therapy is a carcinogen. But this estrogen is 3,000 times more powerful than human estrogen. Does this mean it causes cancer? No. Are estrogens known to PROMOTE the growth of EXISTING cancers? Yes. The same can apply to other carcinogens that are actually strong estrogens such as DDT and dioxins.
I cover some of the known causes of cancers here so you can see I do not think that viruses are the only cause:

So, hypothetically speaking, what would your cancer prevention protocal include?
Anti-virals like Olive Leaf etc?
I don't bother with olive leaf.
Some of the key points I would focus on though include:
Antivirals: Chaparral, pau d' arco, andrographis, chagas, licorice root, myrrh, small doses of poke root, amla.
Block lactic acid conversion to glucose with nettle leaf.
Hyaluronidase inhibition with myrrh.
Stimulate white blood cell activity with myrrh, bladderwrack or dulse
Increase interferon or interferon activity with small doses of poke root, licorice root and amla.
Increase oxygen utilization by cells using suma.
Block angiogenesis with ashwagandha.
I like your list and the explanations of what each item is useful for, but I wonder why you do not include olive leaf, which many consider as one of the best natural anti-virals?

Because there are much better choices for antivirals than olive leaf. Olive leaf is merely a protease inhibitor. I can get that from green tomatoes or a raw red potato. Many other antiviral herbs have more beneficial effects such as chaparral that is also an adrenal builder and a mitosis inhibitor. Or pau d' arco that 18 antivirals and 5 anti-inflammatories.
Thanks for the reply. I just now found it when I looked up your earlier post to get a list of your recommended herbs (CZ's notification process leaves much to be desired in recent months, at least for me).
I certainly like pau d'arco, but are you saying that olive leaf is no better than green tomatoes or raw red potatoes? Or that it's only benefit is as a protease inhibitor? Or are you referring to it's benefits only in regards to cancer? Pau d'arco could be a better choice for cancer as it has history of effective use, but olive in general is one of my favorite antivirals and I have used it myself with great success. Here is a good description from a web source:
Olive leaf extract (Olea europaea L.) contains oleuropein and the flavonoids apigenin, luteolin, chrysoeriol, hesperidin, rutin, quercetin, and kaempferol. Olive Leaf extract has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Olive leaf interacts with the protein in cold and flu virus particles to halt infection, according to a recent report published in Alternative Medicine Review. The antioxidants contained within olive leaf have the effect of eliminating damaging free radicals, leaving far more of the immune system's resources available for fighting off colds and flus. Olive leaf's combined qualities of boosting the effectiveness of the immune system and weakening the virus itself creates a powerful, safe and natural defense against these, and other pathogens. Olive leaf is safe to take in conjunction with flu histamine blockers, and traditional cold remedies and may be used by people of all ages.
The main constituent of olive leaf is the phytochemical oleuropein, which is broken down to elenolic acid, has a powerful anti-bacterial effect, and the ability to interfere with critical amino acid production essential for viruses. Oleuropein is a bitter monoterpene glycoside of the class known as secoiridoids and is also one of the major components found in the polyphenolic portion of olive oil. Research suggests that olive leaf may be a true anti-viral compound because it appears to selectively block an entire virus-specific system in the infected host. It then appears to offer healing effects not addressed by pharmaceutical antibiotics. Olive leaf's broad wide-spectrum killing power includes an ability to interfere with critical amino acid production for viruses; an ability to contain viral infection and/or spread by inactivating viruses by preventing virus shredding, budding or assembly at the cell membrane; and the ability to directly penetrate infected cells and stop viral replication.
Most of the research on olive leaf's anti-viral properties has come from studies on viruses of which herpes is a common one. In 1969 the research of Dr. Renis working with the Upjohn company, proved that a compound of oleuropein from the olive leaf could kill all viruses, including the herpes (both oral and genital), against which it was tested. After the active components were isolated in 1969, an upsurge of research has resulted in continuing discoveries. In 1992 French biologists found that all of the herpes viruses were inhibited or killed by extracts from olive leaf.
When you listed "Hyaluronidase inhibition with myrrh" does that mean that supplemental hyaluronic acid might be contraindicated for cancer? The reason I ask is that I use it for back and joint support and have also found that it has noticeable effects on fine lines and dry skin. I can't really say if it makes a difference in my back or helps with joint lubrication/support because I take other things for that, but I can definitely say that it makes a difference for my skin. I might want to think twice if it could have negative consequences in regards to preventing cancer though.
Thanks again,
DQ
We have covered this topic many times here. Cancer may be aptly described as a defense mechanism on the part of groups of cells, but the idea of nature screwing up so badly as to have cancer as a defense mechanism of the body itself beggars belief. Why nature would have a defense mechanism that most often results in the death of the host is beyond me. It does make a terrific hook for selling a book though, the same as all the other universal causes and cures that have been put forth to sell books - cancer is a result of trauma, cancer is a fungus, cancer is caused by mysterious flukes . . .
If this debate continues it will soon find itself in the debate forum, which was created for debating cancer.
