For you dieters out there you hafta keep in mind that there are no shortcuts or magic potions and that no form of fasting, water, juice, MC whatever were designed as weight loss diets,PERIOD!. Fasting is meant to take the burden from digestion and all the energy that goes toward it and let the body repair and heal itself. Stop looking at the numbers on the scale they are meaningless and you can easily become obsessed. Lose the scale!! You will know you are losing weight by the way your clothes fit and most of all by the way you feel. No amount of wishful thinking or misinformation will make any form of fasting a weight loss diet, PERIOD! Fasting for weight loss is an inroad to eating disorders if you are not doing it with the full understanding that it is just a "tool" to clean out the system so the body will operate more efficiently and you can continue to lose weight safely and efficiently by the required lifestyle change. No if and or buts about it. If you go back to your old ways you >>WILL<< gain the weight back and possibly more because all forms of fasting will slow the metabolism. The catch and a prime reason that makes any form of fasting not a good weight loss diet is that most overweight folks metabolisms are already slow and if you don't incorporate regular exercise and lifestyle change after the fast the you will fail bringing you back to the beginning or worse, putting on more weight than you lost! and you'll be caught in a vicious cycle and the start of and eating disorder akin to binge and purge. The primary focus of any successful weight loss program is and will always be quality, balanced nutrition and regular exercise. Rapid weight loss is neither healthy nor permanent. It takes the system 6 to 8 weeks to normalize the metabolism after any fast and prolonged fasting without resting and including exercise and sound nutritional program for the rebuilding process may cause permanent damage to the metabolism and cause all kinds of possible problems from nutritional deficiency. In addition it will make it extremely difficult to continue to loose weight in the future. Because all forms of fasting are >>cleanses<< the body will do what it needs to do the most first. Often it will not be weight loss and there will be periods where you will not lose any weight. So do yourselves a favor and stop looking at the numbers and press on knowing that you are doing yourselves a world of good and that you are attacking the "root causes" of obesity. being overweight is not a thing in and of itself. It is a "health issue" Weight loss requires a >LIFESTYLE< change. It will require >>REGULAR EXERCISE<<. No if ands or buts about it. Exercise is the most efficient way to bring the metabolism back on line. Another thing folks need to keep in mind is that 10 days is just the >MINIMUM< for an MC so don't expect any miracles. The body doesn't even start to get into deeper cleansing till day 8 +/- and around 15 +/- days before getting into the deeper cleansing at the cellular lever. Don't expect that you will clean out a lifetimes worth of abuse even with a 40 day MC. It's just a very good start. Without the lifestyle and diet change and incorporating regular exercise you will go back where you started or worse. The MC does not CURE anything. There is no magic in the lemonade. It helps take out the trash to allow the system to heal itself which is what all these cleanses do. Slow and gradual is the only road to "permanent healing/weight loss" . There are no shortcuts or magic potions. Educate yourselves, focus, exercise regularly and most of all be patient We know the MC formula already and it is just about a "given" that >everyone< will lose weight on the MC. We also know from experience that this weight loss can vary greatly from one person to the next and even for the same person from one MC to the next. It is also a fact that if folks go back to their old ways that this lost weight will come back. So I would encourage folks that post about their weightloss that for their own ultimate benefit and others to also discuss what their plans are to keep this weight off. That is the info that is missing and almost never gets discussed here and would really complete the cycle of using the MC "succesfully" for weight loss. Without a follow up plan the MC or any form of fasting is a >>surefire<< no two ways about it plan for failure and worst yet a plan were a person using fasting for weight loss can gain back even more than they lost in an alarming short period of time. A response to the above from someone who counsels folks with "eating disorders: As someone who has done fasts, I agree with your points about the MC not to be used as a weight loss plan. Anyone doing their first fast, who has possibly been overweight for awhile, cannot understand this until they experience the whole fast.
Remember that 4 or 5 lbs sometimes more depending of the persons starting weight, how full they were, how well hydrated they were etc when they started, that weight is from emptying the bowels and water weight loss. Posting about this miraculous weight loss at the begining of the fast can be very misleading and definetly false hope to the newbies that have yet to find out how the MC really works and that it is is only >part< of a succesful weight loss program.
Also, I know that for some, they can tend to get grouchy because of the calorie restriction too. I wouldn't be surprised at all, if, after some experience with the fast, many people will change their minds completely, as to the philosophies and strategies that they might have had in the beginning.
I find it very wise of you to warn of possibilities of obtaining eating disorders if not in the right frame of mind for a fast. I counsel people with eating disorders. They are usually a lifelong problem that can destroy families. So, forking from that path, if at all possible, is important. The sooner, the better
The Numbers Game
From Seunim's Blog
Quite often when purusing the master cleanse forum or various blogs, you come across many individuals who seem to be obsessed with the numbers game, that is to say, following their weight on a daily basis. Unfortunately, health is not a numerical concept and cannot be defined using statistics. Human beings, however, tend to want to quantify well-being into easily understandable figures. We feel compelled to ascribe numbers to every aspect of wellness, from the qualities of our food to our fitness levels to the physical space we occupy. As a consequence of social pressures, we turn our attention away from health and focus instead on the most contentious of these figures-weight-checking our scales to see how we measure up to our peers and role models. Yet each of us is equipped to gauge our relative healthfulness without any equipment whatsoever. When we have achieved a state of wellness, we feel buoyant and energetic. Some of us are naturally slim, while others will always be curvy. No matter what our weight, we can use the cues we receive from our physical and mental selves to judge how healthy we really are. When you throw away your scale, you commit to a lifestyle that honors the innate wisdom that comes from within your body and within your mind.
The numbers you see on the scale, while nominally informative, can prevent you from reaching your healthful cleansing and eating goals by giving you a false indicator of health. You will know when you have achieved true health because every fiber of your being will send you signals of wellness. When you choose to listen to these signals instead of relying on the scale, your definition of well-being will be uniquely adapted to the needs of your body and of your mind.

You pretty much explained what is written in the FAQ post which is that on it's own without the awareness and diligent follow up and the required "lifestyle/dietary change" anyone using fasting for weight loss will fail. You just didn't like the way it was said and as usual with most dieters you quote the one line that Stanley writes about weight loss and you conveniently exclude all the other dietary and health sugestion he also makes in the book. The simple fact is that the book is short and brief and much detailed information is not included. FYI the MC was originally created to cure ulcers.
Because of the general colon and artery clogging SAD diet and not just eating too many calories parts of the book like the "optional" lax tea or SWF as written by Stanley have now pretty much become a must do and not just "optional". Another is Stanley also sez that you should drink water only "if desired" which as any "experienced" faster will tell is now pretty much a "must" to drink a good bit of additional water to have a succesful and/or easier time on the cleanse. Put that in your pipe and quote it ;+D
Exercise IS crucial to good health period and given the FACT that all forms of fasting slows the metabolism is is the BEST and most efficient way to get the metabolism back up to speed and maintain any weight lost while fasting and just plain and simple to maintain overall good health period. There are all kinds of possible ways to exercise that can be done to circumvent agravating most injuries. Tho you took the lazy ineficient road out and it worked for you due to your diligence and educating yourself, great!! applause applause!! but for the vast majority of folks that come seeking info on these forums and don't have any injuries regular exercise is a MUST period The only bubble that got burst was yours cause instead of seeing the general gist of the post you took it as a "personal" afront cause it didn't fit what you did. If it don't fit you must acquit...........;+D
In addition simple common sense will tell anyone that anyone that looses a good bit of weight in a fairly short period will generally get baggy saggy skin so it is not just optimal to exercise to bring the metabolism back up muuuuuch faster and for optimal health it will also help you look better which in a huge majority of cases is the reason people try and loose weight to begin with.
Your approach is mainly about calorie counting and it appears that you have adapted and done well so good for you on that. Viewing the larger picture what good is it to loose weight and eat crap and count calories and be "unhealthy" and/or "prisoner" to the numbers on the scale and calorie charts. Sorry but that sound like a miserable existance to me not "doable " by most folks and that premise is older than Moses and outdated
The only canned response here is yours cause it based on your narrow field of view based only on your personal experience and your specific condition and your knee jerk reaction and lack of comprehension of what is actually being said in the totality of the "FAQ" post. BTW that post is a combination and distillation based on "years" of real world experiences of hundreds that have passed through this forum and I'm talking about the MC forum where this was "cross posted" to. Again on the "canned responce" BS yours is based on the same ole same ole myopic myth that weight loss is based on calories taken in and calories, burned which considering the prevalence of the SAD diet it is only marginally useful based on the fact that the obesity epidemic in the US is not so based on caloric consumption but on the bad quality of nutritionally devoid processed crap and trans fat that is clogging peoples arteries and colons and not your classic "canned response" of caloric intake calories burned. THAT is the REAL cause of the obesity epidemic in this country and not this caloric intake BS.
Until people start looking at quality of nutrition and overall health and not the mentally enslaving myth of calorie counting the problem will continue to exist and get worse. To your credit you did lightly touch on quality of nutrition towards the end but the bulk of your post is based on numbers and calorie counting and the scale. The scale only gives you marginally useful info as you have no clue when your weight goes up or down if you just emptying your bowels or if it's water weight or even muscle that you are loosing and it is certainly no indicator of your >health< as it was so well expounded on in Seunims blog.
There was not a single place in the FAQ post that said anything about NOT loosing weight while fasting. It clearly states "We know the MC formula already and it is just about a "given" that >everyone< will lose weight on the MC." What part of that did you not understand?? You just selectively took things out of context to suit your myopic kneejerk reaction. The whole post was a comprehensise guide on what role fasting plays in a weight loss program and how to use it succesfully to not only loose weight but keep it off in the most efficient, HEALTHY and >>>LASTINGT<<< way . Comprende?
What you achieved is certainly commendable and you are to be congratulated. You took the time and educated yourself and understood the principle and the crucial part about the follow up. You have the dicipline to deal with all the number counting but I will tell you in the 7 or so years I've participated on the MC forum I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that the vast vast vaaaast majority of people that come here posting about weight loss and fasting are just looking for a magic bullet quick fix and are clueless about how fasting works and what actual role fasting plays as "PART" of a weightloss program and that by itself fasting for weight loss is a surefire plan for failure which is exactly what the FAQ post points to.
OI here we go "again.......... This is laughable when you were the one that came in here with "mockery" with your "burst your bubble", "canned response" BS.
You're obviously new to this and these forums and are now attempting to take the pseudo hi moral road self basting saviour of the universe with your "how to" BS when your "how to" is no more than some "canned" enslaving outdated paint by the numbers approach that points someone into an enslaved by the numbers lifestyle not doable by the vaaaaast majority of desperate dieters that think fasting on it's own is a magic weight loss bullet cause they read it in some celebrity gossip rag. We have seen this over and oooover again on the "MC forum" over the "years". That is the purpose of the weightloss FAQs which FYI has now been part of the MC forum now for over 5 years so we don't hafta keep repeating the same thing over and over again and have the forum taken over by cackling dieters as happened years ago when the MC first hit the celebrity gossip rags and the fasting for weight loss forum had to be created.
Look I can certainly understand your excitement to pass on this "canned" paint by the numbers thing that you just found recently but I predict that this will wear off fairly soon cause no one can live their life enslaved looking at the scale and counting calories from a calorie chart. Deal with that bunky.....................
Have a nice day
