'Hope some of this will be some good 'food for thought' for you.
(I agree with the basics of what Megan is saying :)
Imbalances are caused when something is wrong with the body & diet/lifestyle - they're not caused by a "lack of supplements". Hence adding supplements and trying to adjust the balance via supplements is rarely effective. Unless the "imbalance" or symptoms is caused by a true vitamin/mineral deficiency, a supplement will NEVER provide a cure. Rather, one ends up "addicted" to the supplements needed, because no true healing ever happens...although 'symptom relief' will happen. But that's not a cure...and actually, that's covering up ("bandaiding") a symptom. And (yikes) that's shoving a sock in the mouth of your body, when it's crying out "something is WRONG - help me!"
What is wrong, isn't a lack of supplements - what is wrong is that your body isn't producing or utilizing what it needs. And that can be caused by 'lacks' in diet & lifestyle, but almost always it's has even more 'baseline' issues...which most find it truly rare for a naturopath to even address.
Think of it like being a plant in a garden (that's not thriving properly). One can do all KINDS of various testing of the plant itself, but if the pH of the soil is whacky or the soil doesn't provide enough nutrients, the plant isn't getting enough water (or the water it is getting is somehow toxic), or the root of the plant is squished between two big rocks...all the testing and injecting of substances into the plant isn't going to do a bit of good (and may actually harm the plant by causing MORE imbalances). And when it comes to anxiety, the baseline cause can be as varied as the reasons for a garden plant not thriving!
As this applies to you specifically, you may indeed have a lack of cortisol (or a zillion "something elses"), but no laboratory test can tell you if 'that' is the root cause of your anxiety and/or imbalance. It's just a guessing game (the same as it is with testing & prescribing by allopathic doctors). They do some tests, guess at the cause (maybe) and then prescribe something they hope will relieve the symptoms.
In the case of hormone imbalances, if one is female, and hasn't done a THOROUGH colon cleanse, addressing the imbalance itself can be futile - and sometimes VERY disrupting to the entire body. Why? Because the lower colon wraps directly around the uterus & ovaries TIGHTLY. And if the colon is even swollen a mere parts of an inch, it can exert enough pressure of them to "squeeze them into malfunction".
And it doesn't just cause painful periods, it causes an INCREDIBLE variety of hormonal & female problems (including tumor & cyst growth and formation).
I was experiencing EXTRME, way-to-early menopausal symptoms (and a healthy menopause would NEVER have been like this, even if it were too early)...6-10
pounds of fluid gain monthly, cramping that was brutal (4 ibuprofen every two hours for two days, and I'm a redhead with a SUPER high pain tolerance), and vicious PMS in every way you've ever read it...AND I was NOT "constipated". In one month, I altered our diet to virtually 100% toxin free and I did a very thorough
Colon Cleanse (using
Dr. Schulze s IF#2). The next month, when my period started totally WITHOUT a weight gain, swelling, breast tenderness or PMS, I was just blown out of the water...and I've never reached for a pain killer since! My moods/PMS were completely normal, my flow was 'clean' and healthy and every symptom of menopause disappeared.
Of course, I'm not suggesting that a
Colon Cleanse is the ultimate be-all-end-all of solutions, but if one doesn't START there, how in the world can one have any idea of what is really wrong? And what to do about it? Had I gone to a typical naturopath - I'd now have thousands of dollars of various supplements, thousand of dollars worth of visits and tests, but none of it would have illuminated what was really WRONG, nor would any of it be a true cure, and who KNOWS what damage and imbalance I might have done to my body by shoving it full of chemicals (natural or otherwise) that it did NOT need.
And although a congested liver doesn't "squish the ovaries" directly, the liver is hugely involved in all things hormonal, and the metabolism of cortisol can be inhibited by liver malfunction or congestion (we can easily see this because pharmaceutical drugs that adversely effect the liver, cause cortisol imbalances). So, rather than supplementing cortisol, it makes far more sense to make sure the liver is working as it should be working (via a series of liver flushes)and then if that doesn't 'solve the symptom', one is at least WELL on their way to putting the body/liver/colon back into a 'state of normal' that will ASSURE further symptoms don't arise (and will most likely eliminate a whole variety of symptoms).
And like Megan mentioned (I think), many people have cured themselves of panic/anxiety with
Liver Flushing alone.
Those of us that have been posting on Curezone for years, have seen (frustratingly!) ENDLESS stories of people spending thousands of dollars (even tens of thousands) with naturopaths...getting a bit of symptom-relief (or getting none, and going 'backward') and having their shelves covered with bottles of supplements - only to turn to CZ in desperation. All the testing of various levels of chemicals in the body, and taking random amounts of supplements to try to balance (what a laboratory test reveals as an "imbalance") does not cure the REASON for the imbalance...and many times it IS harmful.
If you'd like to learn more on how a sluggish/impacted colon affects health in general (and why it's THE baseline cleansing protocol for truly natural health & healing), you can avail yourself to these two fantastic online articles:

Sadly (that I've found) there's no equivalent online that compare for liver cleansing, but this book:
http://tinyurl.com/57w3x3
is great! (but mainly for illuminating the function of the liver, and how vital it is that it be cleansed). Andreas takes the actual cleansing process FAR more slowly & cautiously than ANY of this centuries great healers (Schulze, Kelley, Clark that have cured tens of thousands in their clinics)...but still, it's THE best book and source of knowledge on the subject I've ever found.
Please accept my apology if you already know all of this (or don't "believe in it"); one never knows another posters 'knowledge base' (and it seemed to me like this information might be helpful and enlightening for you).
Simply put, the body is MUCH better at healing itself than any "doctor' ever dreamed of - naturopaths RARELY address the root cause of symptoms, and the faster you put the body back into a 'state of normal', the faster it WILL heal itself!
'Hope this gives you some hope and some food for thought :)
