Day 2
Reflections on day 1 of the master cleanse

Sundays in our house is a big food day for me, in the sense that there's always these little rituals we have associated with it. For instance, first thing on Sunday morning we get ourselves ready and walk to a nearby market (rated one of the 10 best in the world, so the food there is unbelievable) and stroll around with a coffee while picking up some goodies for the week. After dropping off our shopping we'll have a light brunch at our favourite neighbourhood cafe, and then head home where I'll spend a chunk of the early afternoon watching a few episodes of my favourite UK soap that I Tivo'd with a cup of tea and a few social tea cookies - it's the only time during the week that I ever drink tea or eat cookies, and I've always enjoyed it as "me time". Then for the rest of the afternoon we're in the kitchen prepping dinners for the week (I like to do a bit of freezer cooking to save time). Sunday evening usually means dinner with friends or family - or we'll just go out to a restaurant ourselves.
Of course, this isn't all we do on a Sunday, I usually do some shopping, I always exercise, etc. But with me starting this cleanse yesterday, I didn't really expect that food was such a big part of my life and as a result I just didn't prepare for it. Instead, I sat around the house all day and thought about everything I was missing out on and started to second-guess my ability to successfully get through the MC. Thankfully my fiance helped me put things into perspective and had me back on track before I could get to the fridge. :)
So to anyone out there starting a cleanse, really think about the role food plays in your life socially - and prepare for it. When you're tackling something as major as a cleanse, you have to be ready for not just for the external temptations, but the internal ones as well.
