Back to Basics

raw milk,,, Back to basics

My entire life has been a "back to Basics" kind of lifestyle... I trust my instincs as far as my health goes.... So it is probably the reason I've been slim most of my life... I never bought into Antibiotics as the Majik Pill... Cannot stomach the "Cold Cures" aisle of any drugstore or supermaket... They are right up there with the aisle of "Junk Food" in any supermarket...... Hell I've even given up on junk food... They used to be good when they were a junk food..... At least you knew what you were buying...

Let me regress here.... When I was quite young, a cousin of some kind had his farm tested for bacteria and failed.... Bonus for us..... We got to have an unlimited supply of raw milk, lots of it, I don't even remember for how long.... But we got gallons of raw milk, mom made: buttermilk, Butter, sour cream for our potatoes, dad had the top cream for his coffee... I don't even remember all she did to it, but she was in seventh heaven.....

I used to walk to my Aunt's Tiny's for some "raw milk" , because to me it was worth the effort... We're talking 2 miles uphill on a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere....

We ate the veggies from the garden, shelling peas to can was a major undertaking (I haven't seen shelled peas in years) We had string beans, corn, onions, potatoes (we drove to Wylusing PA for in season peaches,,,,, ate my fill and helped can them,,,, This was during the "cuban invasion" hence the price of sugar increased, the amount of sugar we got decreased.... I luved them, they were peach flavored not sugar flavored... My mom canned peaches to kill for.... Tried them the past few years and just too sweet for me....

I never picked up my mom's knack for canning so it has been lost on my part in this generation... My sister could to it, but seems like she has taken on a new style of cooking... (besides she has a sweet tooth)....

I seem to be in the minority, I don't have a sweet tooth, my senses go toward salt... like that is good... When I was diagnosed to have high blood pressure, I didn't run out and get a prescription, I just cut back on certain things like table salt,,, I decided that my instinct was for salt and only used it on special occasions, didn't give up on it just made it a special treat.... And those special treats now taste discusting, especially when they decided (by government stands) to go to trans fat... Right now you can't get me to eat the junk food... It is discusting when they use canola cooking oil to try to comply... Hey folks just use cocunut oil to deep fry in and you well get me back an as a loyal customer..... Junk food is junk food and should be treated as such... I luv junk food, as long as it tastes like junk food... I don't eat it for health, but I sure luv to eat it .... They have lost me as a good junk food junkie.... So there goes the junk food, goodbye cheetoes (to expensive) potatoe chips too bland (give me the burned ones with lots of saturated oil and I'll be back)

Was I talking about "back to basics" Hey I have found a reliable source for raw milk,, Another good one for goats milk... Just have to drive 50 miles to pick either one of them up...

New Paltz is going whole hog for there farmers market,,, sure hope it is a farmers market for the average guy or a New York City kind of market.... Don't mean to be disrespectful, but NYC has a lower standard that what I believe to be "real" I am gong tomorrow and try a local dairy.... Not may of them left

I'll finish this later, I' really tired.......

Nite folks....
