My becoming an Occultist
Note:
If you are of a fundamentalist christian disposition, please read no further. This isnt a cautionary tale. I dont want to hear about the rigours of hell, or whats going to happen when I die. I have chosen my path. Thanks in advance.

I started off with spells from a spellbook that I aquired from somewhere. Simple kinds of wish magic really, with a little candlework and a spot of incantation. Strangely, with no real hope for any success in these early attempts, they seemed to work, though not in any grand fashion. My curiosity was piqued.
So, I began to study it. I started with an excellent little book I obtained from a secondhand shop, which talked the reader through basic magickal ritual methods and ceremonial magick. I learned the basics about tarot, geomancy, self initiation, invocation and evocation. It was about then that research into Crowley`s works and caballah became necessary, due to the huge amount of reference in some occult books to his methods and practices. So, by rooting around all of the secondhand bookshops in my area, I began to build a reasonable selection of occult manuals. These I devoured assiduosly, learning about the tree of life and correspondences while initiating myself by means of silence, fasting, pacts and meditation in all of my spare time for a month in my makeshift temple, which doubled as a bedroom for myself. Any spare money I had went into further reading, incense, ritual tools, a pack of Crowley Thoth tarot cards, and other sundry items required for the work. And when I had all that I needed, and deemed myself ready, I began doing ritual magick. More on that next time.
