My father-in-law George, although he's been in Spirit since 3rd March 1987, is very good at remembering the birthdays of his family on earth. And this year, he gave his great-grandson Andrew a dozen new sets of clothes for his first birthday. This is how it came about ...
Back in March, a mini-catalogue of baby clothes arrived in the post for my 17-year-old daughter Valentina, who is Andrew's mother. Valentina got me to order him a dozen sets of clothes for the summer online.
By late April the clothes had not arrived, so I chased them up via the catalogue company's website. But I received no reply, so I applied to my bank for a refund of my card payment; and they credited my account a few weeks later.
In mid-June – over 3 months after I placed the order – out of the blue came a telephone call from a courier company to arrange a date for delivering the parcel of clothes to our home, and pointing out that there was nothing at all for us to pay.
And so, a few days before Andrew's first birthday, which was on midsummer's eve, the parcel of clothes arrived for him. I could see his great-grandfather's hand in this unmistakably, as this gesture of a birthday gift was typical of the many occasions when he has shown Valentina and Andrew that he cares about them.
I explained to Valentina where the clothes had come from and who had sent them. Even though her grandfather passed to Spirit before she was born, she is getting to know him better and better through his constant acts of grandfatherly kindness towards her and great-grandfatherly love towards her baby son.
