If you are happy with your mattress and want to keep it in excellent shape, you need to take good care of it. Below, we have put together some mattress care tips so that you can get more use out of your current mattress before it needs to be replaced.

All mattresses eventually wear out. On average, they need to be replaced approximately every eight years. Sticking to this schedule helps ensure that your mattress not only provides your body with the proper level of support but that it also is clean and safe to sleep on. Researchers at the Future Industry Research Association studied old mattresses. They found that the mattresses had not only shrunken in height but that they also contained a large number of contaminants like dust, skin cells, and hair fibers. All of these contaminants can cause allergy symptoms to worsen. If you want to get the most out of your mattress during the eight years that you use it, these tips will help.

Allow The Mattress To Breathe

When you first buy a new mattress, you should leave it uncovered for about four hours so that it has a chance to thoroughly air out. Beyond that, however, you should also frequently air it out as it ages. This allows trapped moisture from your body to escape, keeping any dampness from causing problems. Ideally, you should take the covers off the mattress for at least 20 minutes each day. If you are going to be out of town, you can take them off for even longer than that to freshen up your JCPenny mattress.

Frequently Rotate Your Mattress

Rotating your mattress on a regular schedule will ensure that it wears evenly, without any areas getting flatter than others. Innerspring and pocket spring mattresses are particularly likely to develop indentations after being used for a long time. Not all mattresses need to be rotated. If you aren't sure about your model, check the sides of the mattress. If there are handles there, then it should be rotated regularly.

Think about Using A Topper

Using a topper will make your bed more comfortable while at the same time helping reduce wear on your mattress. Dreams Now has a great selection of mattress toppers and protectors for sale.

Periodically Vacuum Your Mattress

Mattresses can harbor everything from dust mites to skin flakes. Vacuuming your mattress every few months can help remove these contaminants, creating a fresher, more hygienic sleeping experience.

Try Not To Sit On The Side Of Your Bed

If you need to sit down in your bedroom, try sitting on a chair rather than sitting on the edge of your mattress. Minimizing compression is extremely important when it comes to mattress care. Researchers found that 63% of people with back pain benefited from mattresses that weren't compressed.

Clean Stains Carefully

When you purchase your mattress, the manufacturer should provide instructions on how to clean it. If you can't find the instructions, you can try using a gentle detergent to get rid of stains.

Don't Fold Your Mattress

Avoid the temptation to fold your mattress if you need to move it to another location. This can cause the inner workings of your mattress to become damaged, which can affect its ability to provide you with the support and comfort that you need.
