Top 4 Options for Dealing With Damaged Teeth

Even people who have excellent dental hygiene habits can end up with some type of damage.

The good news is there are many different ways to correct the problem and restore the look and function of those damaged teeth. Here are a few examples of what dentists can do today to help patients once again enjoy a beautiful smile.

Crowns and Veneers

It's easy to chip or crack a tooth. The problem can result from chewing on ice, being involved in some type of physical altercation, or sustaining a fall. The good news is that Barrie dentists have a lot of ways to deal with fractured or chipped teeth. A combination of veneers with crowns is one example.

The veneer envelopes the front of the tooth and help to take away some of the stress on the crack itself. This approach prevents the crack from spreading and also keeps foreign matter from collecting in the tooth. A crown helps to fill in the space created by the chip and restores the natural shape of the tooth. When the dentist is done, no one will know which tooth was damaged.

Dental Bridges

Perhaps the damage is severe enough to mean one or two teeth are now history. Instead of living with the gap, a dental bridge may be in order. Bridges are anchored to the teeth on each side of the gap. There are times when crowns are placed on top to add more stability. The bridges look natural enough that most people won’t notice that you lost any of your natural teeth.

Bonding Teeth

Bonding is often a great way to fill in tiny gaps in between teeth. These gaps can develop for a number of reasons, but the bonding will restore your smile. Best of all, the bonding is done in such a way that your teeth don’t look as if they are a little larger than normal. The appearance is perfectly natural and will last for many years.

Dental Implants

Another option to consider when you have missing teeth is to go with dental implants. An individual implant is inserted directly into the gum, roughly in the same position once occupied by a tooth root. A cap that is shaped like a real tooth is adhered to the top of the implant. This approach can be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or even all of your teeth if you like.

There is also an implant solution known as all on four. With this approach, four strategically placed implants are used instead of one for every missing tooth. A custom designed denture plate is attached to the four implants. Unlike traditional dentures, the all on four do not have to be removed for cleaning. Once in place, you will treat them much like you would a set of natural teeth.

Whatever type of issue you have, rest assured your dentist has a solution. Call today and schedule an exam and consultation. Once you see the results, you will know the time and money were well spent.
