"... One of the most commonly prescribed drugs is for a condition that is not even a disease—'high' cholesterol. Cholesterol-lowering drugs, called statins, are not necessary under any circumstances, and have debilitating side effects that often call for more drugs."[15]

Fungi make statins, as a 'secondary metabolite,' to kill predatory microbes. They also kill human cells. In a review of How Statin Drugs Really Lower Cholesterol and Kill You One Cell at a Time by James and Hannah Yoseph, Peter Langsjoen writes:
Many practicing physicians have a healthy understanding of the current level of corruption and collusion among big pharmaceutical companies, governmental agencies such as the NIH and FDA, and major medical associations [and non-profits] such as the American Heart Association, but the reader of this book will come away with the disturbing conclusion that it is even worse than imagined. Statins may be the perfect and most insidious human toxin in that adverse effects are often delayed by years and come about gradually. Further, statins frequently impair mental function to such a degree that by the time patients are in real trouble, they may lack the mental facilities to recognize the cause."[6]

"... doctors think heart disease is fatally progressive, they can’t imagine that taking dietary supplements and lifestyle improvements are reversing his condition. They give a person no hope of healing. Also, doctors are afraid to go against the standard practice of medicine, they are not allowed to rock the boat. However, they might make an exception if they have studies to back up a request from a patient. But they aren’t going to bother to do the research themselves, so you have to do it for them.
I sent (a client) the following sources of information from prominent doctors working to educate the public about the misuse of statin drugs as some sort of corrupt preventive intervention in heart disease. You can print up articles from these sites for your doctor to put in your patient file.
Follow Uffe Ravnskov,[8] a Danish medical doctor, independent researcher, member of various international scientific organizations, and a former assistant professor and medical practitioner in Denmark and Sweden. Dr. Ravnskov dispels the myth of cholesterol as a cause of heart disease.
Look into the Cholesterol Skeptics site called THINCS.[9] This International Network is composed of a steadily growing group of scientists, physicians, other academicians, and science writers from various countries.

"... a new study about statin drugs has emerged...
In the study,[1] which was published in a peer-reviewed journal in 2015 ... the authors claim that, contrary to widely held beliefs, the primary toxicity of statin drugs is on their inhibition of ... compounds required for energy generation (in the form of ATP) and mitochondrial maintenance and repair. As a result, the body’s cells, particularly of the heart, are unable to obtain the energy they need for normal cellular metabolism and repair. The result of this energy-starved state (ATP is the energy 'currency' in mammalian cells) is impaired muscle function, including function of the heart, which, after all, is a type of muscle. This drug-induced energy deficit explains the common side-effects from statins, which are muscle weakness and congestive heart failure. ...
According to this study, statin use increases the rate and amount of coronary artery lesions as compared to controls, the very situation they are meant to prevent and treat. This outcome is in addition to the well-recognized side effect of congestive heart failure ...] The ... study reports 130 cases of statin cardiomyopathy (leading to heart failure – often the cause of death in 'heart patients') within four years of commencing statin therapy in a single cardiology practice in Japan. [2]
In an interview following the publication of this article, (the author of the study) was asked whether there was any safe and effective use of statin drugs – including those with familial hypercholesterolemia. His response: 'I can propose no safe and effective means to protect from the side effects of statins. Instead, I recommend those taking statins to start discussing with their doctors that they replace their statins with safer omega-3 fatty acids.'[3] In other words, eat wild fish, grass-fed butter and eggs instead of taking drugs that actually accelerate the very disease you are trying to prevent."[4]

April 8, 2018 - Statin drugs and the link between ALS, Parkinson’s and Dementia -
"A Canadian article about ALS states, '(Physicians are) uncovering surprising links between ALS and other diseases, like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and frontotemporal dementia, which were once thought to be completely unrelated…'[12]
What could be the link between the increasingly common diagnoses of ALS, Parkinson’s and Dementia?
Statin drugs.
As I wrote in my book, The Statin Disaster, statin use has been shown to be associated with an increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia. I also wrote about the increased risk in ALS with statin use.
A new 2018 article in Drug Safety[13] looked at the diagnosis of ALS for each statin drug being used. The authors relied on the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) data to compare the relationship between statins and ALS. The scientists found statin drugs were associated with a 9-107-fold increase in ALS diagnosis, depending on the type of statin drug. For example, Crestor had a 9-fold increase, Lipitor a 17-fold increase, Zocor a 23-fold increase, and Mevacor a 107-fold increase.
The authors concluded, 'These findings extend previous evidence showing that significantly elevated ALS reporting extends to individual statin agents and add to concerns about potential elevated occurrence of ALS-like conditions in associated with statin usage.'[13]
Folks, I am rarely stunned by a research article, but this one shook me. Although an association does not equal causation, the association of statins with ALS as shown above is greater than the association that cigarettes increase the risk of lung cancer. Remember, there has never been a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study showing cigarettes cause lung cancer. However, we know it to be true because the association is so strong.
I think this bears repeating: The association between statins and ALS is stronger than the association of cigarette smoking and lung cancer.
Statins, in the best of the studies, lower your risk for a non-fatal heart attack by around 1%. And, you don’t live longer for taking them for many years–unless you consider four more days of life a success!
That means statins fail nearly 99% who take them. Now, throw in all the horrendous side effects including ALS, and I am still wondering why the FDA doesn’t pull them from the market.
The title of my book, The Statin Disaster, says it all. It is truly a medical disaster that statins are taken by so many for such little gain. A diagnosis of ALS increases with statin use? Not only is it increased, it is tremendously increased."[13]
