Katrina Frey of Frey Vineyard
Just got a return call from one of my favorite people in the whole world, Katrina Frey. We talked for about fifteens, which is a lot of time considering how full her days are helping up at Frey Winery, the oldest Certified Organic and Biodynamic winery in the US.
Katrina is going to be a sponsor of The Little Engine That Could, my 68 VW Van that plans to be driving me up the coast from San DIego to Santa Rosa, CA between September 1-10, 2012. I will be in route to the National Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, CA. The show runs September 11-12-13, 2012.
I have a proposal in to do an opening ceremony, teach Grow a Healthier Pizza, and be part of a Closing Ceremony. The Opening as I see it, will be a Luther Burbank's home garden in Santa Rosa. This is the place where he did his version of Genetic Modification based on classical plant breeding.
Classical Plant Breeding makes sure that we hold firm to the integrity of our Sacred Seeds, allowing the most diverse genetic possibilities to emerge should they be needed. Genetic Modification circa Nina Federoff, and my friends at Monsanto Corp, relies on imagining that the mind of a scientist can trump the mind of Nature.
Nature laughs at that idea and is currently sending a host of allergic reactions into people that we might wake up. All my ideas about GMOs are highly scientific I am sure, at least from the point of view of members of the AAAS, our leading Science Organization that has Monsanto as one of its members in good standing. I too, want to be a member in good standing within AAAS and look forward to teaching Grow a Healthier Pizza there.
As I have written many times, I believe the future of Monsanto is to become a little company in Saint Louis. The only hope ultimately for their investors is to push for an organic section of Monsanto. I am willing to coach them on how to do that.
The writing is on the wall. This November 6, ballots will be cast to Label GMO Foods. There are people from all sides of the fencepost who will be voting "Yes: to Label GMOs. It only seems fair. You do not have be an opinionated "Anti" GMO advocate as I am, to say we have the Right to Know Label GMO Foods. All we are asking, is Just Label it
