Just off the phone with Bob Quinn, my primary contact from KAMUT® Khorasan ancient wheat.
The ancient Knorasan wheat has become one of my main plant teachers this year. Bob sent me a 50 lb bag of Kamut (R) early in the year. The 50 lbs are down to the last of four buckets.
The KAMUT®is the mainstay of my Grow a Healthier Pizza project, that as of yesterday has expanded into Grow A Healthier Challah, as well. Challah is the name for the bread that the Jewish People use each Shabbat.
I promised Rabbi Langer, the Orthodox Rabbi at Beth Jacob, about 30 years that I would be growing him a healthier Challah made with whole grains. Yesterday, I took significant steps to fulfill the promise.
First things first.
KAMUT® brand grain, Why the Trademark?
The actual name of this ancient wheat is called Khorasan wheat. Bob Quinn tells a story that the wheat in a legend told, was with Noah on the Ark. This was a grain that was set aside for to help us through challenging times. Today, many people are having difficulty digesting wheat, and Kamut, called "The Ancient Wheat For Modern Times," is here now as a teacher.
One of the messages of the ancient wheat is that wheat was never intended to by commercialized to the degree that it is now. Wheat has been turned into one of the mainstays of the American Diet. There are many other grains and foods that need to be part of a "Balanced Daily Living Regimen," as Dr. Bernard Jensen would say.
I will tell more about what he taught about wheat in other blogs.
For today, I want to get on the phone with the Montana Flour and Grain Company, and get me one more 50 lb bag of Kamut.
The Trademark (R), Bob tells me, insures the organic quality of the grain.

“KAMUT” is not the name of a wheat. It is a trademark used to market a grain with certain guaranteed attributes. In 1990, the word “KAMUT” was registered as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark office. This was done to protect and preserve the exceptional qualities of a particular variety of the ancient wheat, khorasan, for the benefit of all those who are interested in high quality, healthy food. Only by the use of a trademark can customers be guaranteed that products produced with KAMUT® khorasan wheat contain the pure ancient variety, organically grown to high quality standards.
KAMUT® khorasan wheat shall:
1. Be the ancient khorasan variety of wheat
2. Be grown only as a certified organic grain
3. Have a protein range of 12 – 18%.
4. Be 99% free of contaminating varieties of modern wheat.
5. Be 98% free of all signs of disease.
6. Contain between 400 and 1000 ppb of selenium
7. Not be used in products in which the name is deceptive or misleading as to the content percentage
8. Not be mixed with modern wheat in pasta
The word “Kamut” was found in An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary by E. A. Wallis Budge, first published in London by John Murray in 1920. The following entry is from volume 2 page 788:

met him at the World Environment Day.
Gave him a little of the Knorasan Wheat for his personal use.
He wanted to send some down to the main office to explore growing
the ancient grain in Mexico.

Needs a wet climate in Spring.
Needs a dry and hot climate in Summer.

Dear Bob,
I was at World Environment Day in Tecate, Mexico June 9, 2012. I planted Seed Dreams with the Secretary of Agriculture for Baja that people here would learn to grow some of their own food.
I introduced him to the KAMUT® brand grain and thought that there was an opportunity here to have the ancient grain grown in Mexico. I wanted to send this information your way that progress among this go through the correct procedures and channels.
