Dehydroepiandrosterone (pronounced dee-hi-dro-epp-ee-ann-dro-stehr-own), or DHEA as it is more often called, is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal gland. It is the most abundant steroid in the bloodstream and is present at even higher levels in brain tissue. DHEA levels are known to fall precipitously with age, falling 90% from age 20 to age 90. DHEA is known to be a precursor to the numerous steroid sex hormones (including estrogen and testosterone) which serve well-known refunctions, but the specific biological r ... read more
Idebenone, a Drug with a Myriad of Antiaging Benefits 17 y
by Robert Mason PhD
When the coenzyme (the active part of a vitamin)- CoQ10 was first discovered and discussed and found to have heart, blood and energy improvement it soon became apparent that it was a most important supplement.
Now there is also a synthetic variant available called Idebenone , it has all the qualities of CoQ10 but with an even greater range and depth of protection. It protects the precious tiny mitochondria (the energy producing cells) and even has brain-enhancing qualities.
It is, if you like, the ”ultimate” CoQ10 and as such qualifies as an important anti-aging supplement.

Smart Drugs II
The Next Generation
Skeptics about nootropics (” smart
drugs”) are unwitting victims of the so-called
Panglossian paradigm of evolution. They believe that our cognitive
architecture has been so fine-honed by natural selection that any
tinkering with such a wonderfully all-adaptive suite of mechanisms is
bound to do more harm than good. Certainly the notion that merely
popping a
pill could make you brighter sounds implausible. It sounds like the
sort of journalistic excess that sits more comfortably in the pages of
Fortean Times than any scholarly journal of repute.

Grass Fed Beef Hoax 17 y

American Grass Fed Beef
Today we got a call from a customer who noticed a well known organic free range beef supplier is now claiming to sell grass fed beef with some minor grain feeding. This ”grass fed beef” was being featured in a large health food grocery store chain.
Curious to learn what practices they had changed for this new offering of ”grass fed beef”, we decided to take a visit to their website. It was an eye opening experience in marketing double talk.
First we learned that this company has two corporate entities . . . one for a ”natural beef” and one ”certified org ... read more
The Awful Truth About Eating Grains 17 y
Written by Dr. Del Thiessen and sent by Barbara Kravets
At the University of Minnesota, epidemiologist David
R. Jacobs has found that those who ate whole-grain products daily had about
a 15 percent to 25 percent reduction in death from all causes, including
heart disease and cancer (The Washington Post: 8-4-99). This finding is in
keeping with guidelines by the American Heart Association, the American
Cancer Society, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Society
for Clinical Nutrition, who would all like to see an increased consumption
of whole-grain foods to at least three servings per day.

Cave Man Cuisine; AKA Caveman, Paleolithic, or Evolutionary Diet 17 y
by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD, Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation Health Journal Vol 21, No 2. (619) 574-7763
This is the diet I try to follow as close as possible. Basically, it is vegetables meat, fruit, nuts, and seeds. They have taken DNA samples of our ancestors and found them to be in much better health than we are, and they ate over 50% meat at times. This diet avoids grains, as grains are a modern age invention that man was not supposed to eat. Corn is a grain and should be avoided. Rice is not a true grain, as it has no gluten, so it is safe to eat.
Low-fat diets, claim the pundits of medical orthodoxy, have been associated with good health and longevity throughout the globe and sinc ... read more

Fluoride, a trace mineral found in most tap water, is best known as a dental cavity fighter. It also helps to form strong bones by bonding with calcium and phosphorus. Your baby needs fluoride when the teeth begin to form at around ten weeks; permanent molars and incisors begin developing in the second and third trimesters.
It is not advisable to drink green tea because it has high amounts of fluoride. And, too much fluoride is bad for health. Yerba mate tastes like tea and has far less fluoride.

Women: More Than Three Coffees A Day Could Protect Memory 17 y

Men did
not enjoy the same benefit, they said.
”The more coffee one drank, the
better the effects seemed to be on (women’s) memory functioning in particular,”
said Karen Ritchie at the French National Institute of Medical Research, whose
work appears in the journal, Neurology.
The researchers followed more
than 7000 men and women in three French cities, checking their health and mental
function and asking them about their current and past eating and drinking
habits, their friends, and their daily activities.

92 Day Juice Fast (days 1-37) 17 y
A Lost Soul’s Journey Homeward

June 25th, 2007
Today marks day one of a 92 day juice fast. I was introduced to the idea by David Rain, at the Tree of Life. I also read Cleanse and Purify Thyself by Richard Anderson. I have discussed it with others who have done it and have decided it is my next big step. The before and after pictures and stories are amazing and have led me to hope for great effects.
The 40 day water fast of last year was very exhausting. It was done for primarily spiritual reasons and took a long time to recover from. I remember waiting for the coated tongue to disappear a ... read more

Day 38
I was listening to a David Wolfe lecture this evening. He said that honey is the most enzymatically rich food on the planet. That was all I needed to send me running to the store. I have been off of it for a long time. In my defense, it is liquid… sort of. And Pythagorus practically lived on the stuff.
Still cold and tired and wanting to eat solids again. I had a huge mouthful of dulse to get some minerals. I know it’s less of a purists juice fast, but I am not trying to be a purist, i am trying to become pure. I keep reading material that says that jui ... read more

Aspartame & Stevia
For more than 20 years, a war has been silently waging in this country. The battlefield is the billion dollar artificial sweetener industry. The combatants are the giant agri-chemical industry and its allied forces, the FDA against a handful of small private companies and concerned citizens on the other. The casualties are the 200 million men, women, and children who regularly consume more than 5,000 food products artificially sweetened with saccharin, acesulfame k, and aspartame. They do so because they are diabetic, hypoglycemic, or just concerned about their weight. They unwittingly bec ... read more

I used these weight loss tapes years ago and they work extremely well. I found myself driving 15 miles for a salad and before that I hated salad! The tapes tell you that you like healthy food and other affirmations that make you eat smaller amounts. I was passing up lemon meringue pie and had no craving for it and didn’t feel deprived. My brain only wanted healthy food. And, although I have not listened to these tapes for years, I still retain a lot of the re-programming it did, which is why I don’t need to listen to them. If I were to start eating unhealthy or too much, I would definit ... read more
Bisphenol A - A Survey of BPA in U.S. Canned Foods 17 y
BPA is toxic at low doses. People are exposed at harmful levels. Canned food is a predominant, but not exclusive source of daily BPA exposure. BPA is found in many everyday products such as the hard clear plastic food containers — including baby bottles, baby toys, dental fillings and sealants, electronics, adhesives, paints and varnishes. BPA is found in a variety of other PVC plastics. Brominated BPA is a fire retardant with widespread use in the plastics used for electronics.

Sources of Monosodium Glutamate
I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo, and spent years working for the government.
He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America. In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.
No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make th ... read more
