Re: Loose skin update

Someone else PM'd me asking about loose skin. Good question.

I don' know if anyone has seen the movie "Apollo 13" with Tom Hanks (I watched Apollo 11 and 13 live) but there is a point at which they are on their way home and then NASA works out that the heat shield may be damaged, and could cause them all to burn up on re-entry, but there is no way they can tell if this will happen. There are demonstrations by TV newscasters using blow torches on models of the capsule to show the public how dangerous it was, and get the viewer figures back up.

That's what I felt when I first heard about loose skin, that even though I was on my way home, there was an unknown danger ahead of me.

As the person who PM'd me knows, I have mentioned loose skin before, but have not been clear on how this has resolved.

Well, it's still there, but doesn't look awful yet, but there again I have more weight to lose. I won't know how this resolves until I reach my target weight, but at the moment I have some belly fat which is being pulled down my gravity, and this looks a little saggy.

This is also a reason why I am not in a hurry to lose the remainder of this weight so quickly. I'll just eat good food and let nature work it's course.

I am also experimenting with no soap and no shampoo. From what I have read, skin and hair oil contains omega 3 oils, and it seems rather silly to wash them off with petrochemicals each day, thus making the body work hard in putting them back. Especially when omega 3 oils seem to help with skin elasticity http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070802171752AALhRBI

It took a month or so for my hair to adjust, during which time I washed it occasionally with bicarbonate of soda and used cider vinegar as conditioner. I should be getting the other stuff I need from the plant based diet. I have also tested for Body Odor s with some pretty fussy people, and so far so good. I can only assume that the new diet helps, no sugar, fat, salt, oil processed food or meat.

I am going to get to 11% body fat regardless, so I guess for me the re-entry point (to use the Apollo 13 analogy) will be when I approach 60Kg or 130 pounds, and that may be towards the end of this year. I am 72Kg now. When I am 60Kg I am hoping there will be no belly fat, which is what's currently what's causing some slight sagging due to gravity. Then hopefully the skin will tighten more.

If there is still loose skin I will experiment with ways to get rid of it, including exercise and perhaps another water fast. A fast might well tighten it up I think, but I don't want to do one now as it will slow my metabolism down.

Just like Apollo, this is still very much a "don't know" issue at present.
