I'm going to grow Wheatgrass Outdoors - help?

Hi there

I've been looking into wheatgrass a lot lately as I am buying a juicer soon. I was going to grow it indoors but don't think that's the best bet as I can't use soil indoors.

However, I was speaking to a friend the other day and he said "you can always grow it here in my garden". He has a little patch he doesn't use tucked away, and I just wondered how I go about doing this? I told him I never really knew what was involved growing it outdoors and I'd get back to him once I was 100% sure what he was letting himself in for by letting me do this in his garden.

I wouldn't actually be able to grow the wheatgrass into his soil though - I do know that, as it's not the right set up, I would probably have to do it in some sort of traying system or something.

Also would I just use his soil from his garden or am I best obtainings some organic soil? I've never even seen organic soil anywhere? Would you have to mix different types of soil to get the best type for wheatgrass?

Ann wigmore said the best thing to do is set up a composting system with earthworms etc, I really don't know if he will be up for having this system in his garden, it would sound quite complicated, I don't want to annoy him since he's maybe letting me do this?

What size of trays will I need, how deep? Is growing wheatgrass outdoors something you have to keep your eye on everyday, I can't visit him everyday, perhaps twice a week, could I keep on top of my wheatgrass visiting twice a week?

If I cut the grass close to the soil, then can I store the grass in the refrigerator for a few days or would it lose all of its potency (chlorophyll, vitamin A, Vitamin C etc)?

I live in the U.K so the weather isn't all that good here at the moment, will a frost kill the grass and routing system if it is all in trays.

I'm most excited about starting this so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Dave
