Actually Tom Cruise and John Travolta are very intelligent men, so it doesn't make much sense they are in scientology.  I heard John wanted out at one point, but don't know if it is true.  I think once you get involved with it, it is hard to leave because you have dug yourself a hole and it would look very bad to stop.  They also threaten to expose people if they leave.  That was a rumor about John years ago, don't know if it was true.  They said he had some gay encounters and they would tell on him if he left.  But, if I know about it, and everyone who read the gossip mags knew about it, how much of a threat could it be.  So, it's probably not true, I would guess.  But, they definitely have done some bad stuff to people, all in the name of money.
