I fired my doctor today

Today I reached the end of my rope. My MD refused to treat me for my pinworm infection. One of my children caught it at camp this summer and gave it to my other little one and me. They were treated by their pediatrician and are over it, but I still have it DESPITE the fact I am on day 15 of my parasite cleanse, and have supplemented like mad with ACV, oil of oregano, GSE, garlic, salt and extra wildwood. Loads of worms have come out of me, but the little pinworms are still going strong! Even in my ears. I have determined that somehow they migrated to my head, and I can feel them all hours of the day and night coming out to lay their eggs, then retreat. It's maddening and I am so concerned about re-infecting my children.

So this morning I called my MD and asked her for an Rx before lab results come back since the symptoms are clear, but she refused. She had referred me to a gastroenterologist two weeks ago because I brought in a 5-inch nematode (?) along with my pinworm complaint. She had rushed me out of her office and said I needed to see a gastro. So I went to see the gastro and he knew, of course, nothing more, but sent me to a lab for a stool sample. WHY couldn't she just send me to the lab herself?? So much time has been wasted, not to mention the unbelievably LONG wait time to get lab results.

So I asked, PLEASE, for the benefit of my children, could I have a prescription of mebendazole while we await lab results, to which she very curtly answered that the matter was out of her hands. (I'll mention here that she has treated me with disdain since I came in with the worm and told her that I feel them in my ears. I think she truly thinks I'm crazy.) It was all TOO MUCH. So I ... unleashed ... and told her that I didn't agree with the exercise in sending me to a gastro and felt it was fruitless, clogging up the insurance system, wasting my time, not to mention my money since my high deductible dictates that all of this is out of pocket for me, that I didn't appreciate her rushing me out of her office, or trying to rush me off the phone, nor listening to my concerns about my children. And then I told her I would be finding another doctor. It felt very empowering; I highly recommend speaking your mind to your doctor! Actually, I had my doubts about her prior to this and I think she's probably relieved. The whole parasite thing got her unnerved. I know I am glad to be moving on.

Two hours later my lab results came back negative. Yes -- negative. The biggest joke of all! But is it any wonder? The tiny vial they give you, to which 90% of it is a preservative solution, allows for probably a 1/2 cubic inch of stool! And when I asked for a second, they said "one per person."

Then my gastro told me he wants me to try to collect another worm -- instead of stool -- and put it in one of the lab vials. Back to square one! At least my gastro treats me with respect. I intend to follow up with a letter. It may mean nothing to her but I will at least have had another chance to vent my frustations.

The bottom line is that I have been taking matters into my own hands, administering my own cleanse, and I feel much progress has being made. It's just the CONTAGIOUS little critters that I can't seem to shake, and I REALLY don't want to re-infect my kids. All precautions are being made, daily sheet and undergarment washing, cleaning the toilet after use, frequent handwashing, etc. But still, the possibility exists.
