Re: End of day 6--reply to #42132
My mother has type II diabetes and so I had learned from her a long time ago how to check your blood glucose with an at-home monitor. When she had checked mine about 7 years ago (the last time I saw her since we are not presently in contact), my blood
Sugar was normal so I never suspected I might have diabetes. On a hunch a few months ago after reading about insulin and also reading "The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program" which is a GREAT book when it comes to really explaining what insulin does in your body, I went and bought one of those blood-glucose monitors from the pharmacy. I took my blood
Sugar upon waking (after at least 8 hours after eating last) and two hours after a meal for over a week and all of my levels were way up there, most definitely in the diabetic range.
So I decided to go to a traditional doctor, something I never do, to see what their tests would say, even though I have read that they are not necessarily an accurate assessment since they only do fasting blood
Sugar and their results confirmed mine. I think doing what I did and taking my blood sugar ever day for over a week and then looking at the big picture is more accurate in my opinion. They wanted to put me on medication of course, but I do know that my mother basically reversed hers by losing about 60 pounds, changing her diet and exercising.
I'm not sure if your symptoms could be indicative of something besides diabetes or not. You might be pre-diabetic. It seems like the worse my diabetes got, the frequent urination also got worse and my weight gain seemed to speed up.
I don't know if you tested your blood sugar yourself or had it done by a doctor, but if you only had it done by a doctor, then you might try doing it yourself for a week on your own. I think the monitors themselves cost about $20 and up and you need to also get testing strips and lancelets. I bought a One Touch and it worked well. You have to be prepared for a little pain though.
