I believe that the term "cold sore" is just a socially acceptable way of saying herpes outbreak. It doesn't have the stigma that "herpes" does and is even the term used on TV nowadays. From what I've read, hsv1 (usually oral) and hsv2 (usually genital) are both "herpes" and can be passed under the "right" conditions. I say "usually" because hsv1 can also be found below and hsv2 can be found above. Neither is restricted to a particular area. It just depends on the point of entry.
It would be nice if a cold sore wasn't viral but I'm afraid that's not the case.
Even if you're now positive for "H", don't worry. In time, everything will be ok, again. :)
