Perhaps you do not understand that even this would not happen without sunlight... unfortunate. That sunlight (and any number of other factors) is left out of the equation should not suggest it does not have a profound role to play in all of this. Would you exist without sunlight? No, you would not.

I believe you may be thinking too hard... it is not at all that difficult and your math is limited by man's thoughts and explanations of these things, not necessarily the truth, but a perception subject to interpretation, or more commonly a misinterpretation, the same as a passage in a book can be misinterpreted, like say the Bible.

Science is found to be wanting on so many occasions over and over again. I am quite surprised that you are such an ardent stickler for it given your predisposition to free thought and all.

As you yourself stated in your post; "What you have is energy being used to break and create bonds, do work, activate enzymes."

You imply, but do not state that none of this would happen without sunlight... zip, nada, nothing... no life on earth. What brings it together? What makes it work? Your sentence implies it... Do not hand me another chemical equation without the use of some symbol for both light/radiation/electromagnetic energy, gravitational pull etc. Without it, it is an incomplete equation as it relates to biology. You should know that, being the Science minded person that you are.

If you do not move out of the box you are in C, you may never expand your world. Too bad, you seem to have so much potential.

In terms of a "scientific" explanation, ML does not offer many that you are happy with; and that seems to be your beef. I do not always agree with them word for word either, but he does seem to have a knack for putting some things into rather simplistic terms that enable a layperson to follow along at the same time enraging the Science minded...
