Are you sure it's not just your nose? Pinch your nose and see if the same thing happens. It seems more likely that you're picking up the strong scent of garlic as opposed to the taste since even if garlic was quickly absorbed through your skin the fact that it's in your bloodstream wouldn't fire the receptors connected to your taste buds, only the actual chemical composition of garlic hitting your tastebuds would get a reaction. Also, most of "taste" outside of the salty sweet bitter sour is actually smell.
