Re: Trying again....

Hi MadArtist,

It sounds like you're gearing up for a real "maneuvre". It's a good feeling, isn't it, to take control like that, rather than sitting back and letting the situation control you? That's great that you're getting back in the saddle to fight for your sobriety again.

Have you heard of the Japanese "Daruma" doll? Here is a good article about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daruma

The idea is to get one of these when you have an important goal or wish, and fill in one of the eyes with black ink. Then you put it in a place where you will see it everyday, to remind you of your goal. Then when you reach your goal, you fill in the other eye. And usually these things are made so that they are bottom-heavy, such that if you knock it over, it will aright itself naturally. The idea behind that is to remind you that if you fall down, to pick yourself up and try again....

I've got a few of those in my house. In particular, I've got one just for my sobriety.

Please let us know how things turn out. I'm especially curious to see how your system will respond to the humaworm.

If it helps at all, I can tell you that I've been clean for 14 weeks so far, with just the humaworm (in the very beginning) and the hypoglycemic diet. I'm a "functional alcoholic" too, in the sense that I never miss work, but that I'd always find booze in my hands when not working. And then because of that, my sleep would suffer, and my life became a very dull and empty existence. But at this point, after 3.5 months being clean, I've been having a lot of energy, and been working on a lot of new art/sculpture/photography projects, and feeling good about myself and life. The last time I was sober for 3 and a half months was 18 years ago. It also feels good to know that you don't need "God" to find sobriety.

Best of luck with your fight for sobriety. Let us know how things unfold.
