Re: Have appointment for insertion....

I had the Mirena IUD inserted last year at the end of June. I am 43 and the mother of 2 and I have 1 grandchild, my family is certainly complete. The reasoning for having the IUD is this; for several years I have suffered with HEAVY irregular periods and anemia. So bad at times was the pain and anemia that I'd nearly pass out in the shower. I've missed work, trips and many activities with my family because of all this. I thought the IUD was the answer to a prayer. Prior to the insertion I was diagnosed with two fairly large fibroid tumors located in the uterus. The theory was this, the IUD would not only control my periods but help to shrink the tumors. To date, I have suffered pretty much constant bleeding (not heavy, but enough to require protection), horrible lower back pain and cramping on a daily basis. I no longer have a problem with anemia, but I am tired, moody and have very low energy all the time. I am also beginning to have the joint pain that many have complained about. My advise to anyone considering this would be, DON'T!! It isn't worth it. I still haven't scheduled the appointment to have mine removed, but I will. The thoughts of returning to what was prior are almost as bad as what I'm going through now. I'm researching other options. Another problem with the IUD, I haven't been able to get my annual pap because of the bleeding. This does concern me. Good luck to any one considering this option as birth control. Peronally, I would mark it off of my list of options.
